So Starflight is pretty hardcore. I thought Star Control 2 was involved, but Starflight is multiple levels beyond it. You have a crew of five jobs and a captain, each with trainable skills (specialize the crew, generalize the captain), drawn from several races (which affects starting skills, training speed, health, whether you get shot out of space when you run into another ship). Your ship has armor and shields, and shields can be raised or lowered (raised consumes fuel and may piss people off), weapons can be armed or not (again, may piss people off). Planetary landings are much more involved, with you picking out a general site on the map which then zooms into a tiny area and you disembark your lander to traverse around and explore in a much more deliberate style than Star Control 2's. You're also responsible for finding new planets to colonize because apparently your home's start might start throwing nasty solar flares in the not too distant future. Oh, and you have no real goal at the start other than "don't get killed" and "boldly go where no man has gone before".
I look forward to diving further into this when I can take no more of the DC's hilariously loud motor.

The 2DS is actually a really great handheld. I've owned one for a year or so but only just tonight used the thing. It's actually really comfortable to use and the screens have great PPI compared to the 3DS XL. If you don't care about the 3D effect I absolutely recommend this thing for 3DS and DS gaming.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I always appreciated Starflight over Star Control. I remember spending hours and hours playing the game on the genesis and getting sucked in. For the longest time, I thought Star Control 2 WAS Starflight until I stumbled upon it again. When I was in 3rd grade, an old friend and I wrote a Starflight Fan Fiction for a school project. Yeah we were dorks.MrPopo wrote:So Starflight is pretty hardcore. I thought Star Control 2 was involved, but Starflight is multiple levels beyond it. Starflight is pretty excellent, still one of the best starship simulators around. I've poured countless hours into the Genesis version.MrPopo wrote:So Starflight is pretty hardcore. They also included a beefy manual and a map that made it feel really special.

Mirror's Edge gameplay trailer from Gamescon. Looks pretty excellent to me.

Oh, wow, that does look good.
I really enjoyed the first game, so I'm happy they're doing another!

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
That looks awesome.... i haven't played the first though need to get into that.
The only thing that annoys me is that they call it "pre alpha" when clearly is not, the game is almost finished. But plenty of people do this today so what can you do.

Or it could be that they've done a vertical slice to get a level up and running with a bunch of the features to make sure things are looking good and still have to do every other level in the game and any additional side features.

Oh great, "vertical slice" is a thing now. Yay.
The game looks cool, but would it be at all unique if it wasn't in ultra first person? I haven't played the first one but would like to get around to it, but it kind just looks like the usual wall-running and climbing just again, super first person-ized. The environments look cool though

It's always been a thing. It's a good way to prove out an idea.Snatch1414 wrote:Oh great, "vertical slice" is a thing now. Yay.
