True... but we were also 36 rounds in, so that's a lot of fighting.
But yeah, I do that more now, where I just start changing who I use. I have enough of the basics of most characters to do okay, and I'll take my lumps while I'm figuring out movesets.
I do think there might have been an element of proving my gaming superiority in this case, as well. I wouldn't call it fun, but getting your head handed to you when you're the "gaming expert" stings a little. So I felt the need to even the score... and pretty much stop there.
My brother and I actively chose to not compete against each other in most things. Our MvC2 matches were downright legendary, though. I mean, yes, neither of us are top-tier players, but we were good, and almost every match would come within slivers of life. We typically found a good place to stop where we could each reasonably claim some measure of victory.
Smash is the same way... but he'd usually kick my butt in that. He was really, really good with Samus. They nerfed her too much in Brawl, for sure. (I also stuck with Kirby, who got hit with the nerf bat in Melee...)

*Sigh* From now on i guess im going to keep expectations very low before playing any game. The Evil within is a game i wanted to love from the very first second i saw it but it has the "i want to be survival horror and action game" syndrome that RE6 had. Is not as bad but still for every chapter i enjoy there's one i hate. Very hit or miss.

I don't think this is a bad thing though. I constantly find things to like in even the worst of games because I keep expectations low and look for the things the game does to interest me.Exhuminator wrote:Welcome to my world.Damm64 wrote:From now on i guess im going to keep expectations very low before playing any game.

The good side to that approach is that you can have fun with even the worst games. The bad side is that when you're making due with a bad game you could be spending that time with one that's legitimately great instead.Ack wrote:I constantly find things to like in even the worst of games because I keep expectations low and look for the things the game does to interest me.

Heh, I know. I've beaten Pit-Fighter on the SNES. But there is something to be said for bragging rights at least.Exhuminator wrote:The good side to that approach is that you can have fun with even the worst games. Yeah, that's why I've slowed down with a lot of my purchases. I'm trying, at least to some degree, to be a little pickier with what I play. It's also why I'm constantly trying different stuff, and often have a hard time settling on something.
Not that I don't beat the occasional trash game from time to time, though. I played through the Genesis version of Ka-Ge-Ki, for crying out loud. I also soldiered through Star Odyssey... which maybe wasn't trash, but it sure wasn't a good game.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
This has been my mantra for this year. I've tried and dropped far more things than I ever have before. For a long time if I started playing a game I would finish it, no matter what. I'm sure there's a variety of reasons why I did that. I finally got it through my stubborn head that if a game isn't staying consistently enjoyable, it's not worth my limited time to endure it. Even if an otherwise fun game goes out of its way to deliberately waste my time with inane design mechanics, I'll drop it in a heartbeat. I am through with designs that push contrived time extension via belittling busy work.Sarge wrote:It's also why I'm constantly trying different stuff, and often have a hard time settling on something.

Yeah, the problem is always trying to figure out if something is going to get better or not. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and knowing when to give up is a dicey proposition even in the best of times.
I do know that I'm more likely to give something more of a shot if I paid more for it, or if it's critically acclaimed. And I'm willing to put up with more average stuff in genres I enjoy... although even that seems to be not as true as it used to be, as I've not dumped much time into JRPGs at all as of late.

I understand this, but I go about things a little differently by narrowing what consoles I play. At this point, just about everything I play through is either on the SNES or the PC via GOG and Steam(mainly GOG). I'm not playing PlayStation or N64 or Genesis anymore, I'm just sticking to my two favorite machines. Since I now have a much smaller pool of games to pull from than I used to, I am able to focus more on games of varying quality and not feel bad about it. Plus, it's relatively cheaper and more space-conscious to only focus on one physical console.Exhuminator wrote:This has been my mantra for this year.
