It is definitely easy and linear but it's one of the only JRPG battle systems that I can say I truly have fun with (it gets old after a while but I digress). It's funny how clunky it looks to me today. When I first got the game I thought it was absolutely beautiful.bacardipr05 wrote:Started playing Grandia 2 again. First time since hmmm over a year ago. My main complaint about the game is that its a bit easy and a bit too linear. Otherwise i really enjoy this. Strange thing happened everything was going fine for the first few hours. Then the game would lock up an freeze. I switched DC units and its been fine since. There is a very fine superficial "scratch" assuming thats the problem.

Since im a retro gamer nothing past say 2002ish. (except some shooters) Its quite stunning too me lol. Although i can see it probably looks a bit silly by todays standards. The use of color and the artwork. Right now im in Roans castle with the waterfalls and the pools. The reflections in the cathedral. Theres just color every where and its done right. Have it running on Vga. Even on the shingles in on area they are multicolored but somehow they make it work. You never feel overwhelmed by it. Props to the graphic artist who worked on this. If they just made a bit more challenging and less linear or spoonfed would of made it much better overall game.

I just meant the graphics from a technical stand point. The art design of Grandia 2 is still lovely.

I'm back yes I got a Dreamcast again..... I'm only kidding. I do have a question though. Last blade 2, is that an Dreamcast original? Or can I get that on the ps2? I know the ps2 has a bunch of snk ports but I've never seen that on us title

There is a Last Blade 1 & 2 import on PS2. It is the preferred console version if I remember correctly.

Thanks spoony. I'll look that up.
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
I wouldn't say its the preferred version. The LB compilation port was handled poorly by SNK and perhaps one of the biggest let downs in the entire PS2 Neo Geo Online catalog. If I recall, the games in the LB collection are emulated, and rather poorly. As a result, everything looks and feels off. The games runs very slow more often than not.SpoonyBard wrote:There is a Last Blade 1 & 2 import on PS2. It is the preferred console version if I remember correctly.
Sure, DC version of LB2 has its own set of problems, mostly dealing with censorship. Luckily the JPN doesn't suffer from this.

I bought a Dreamcast just for Grandia II. Great game. My advice is to power up all the cancel moves, though (Tenseiken Slash and the like). At highest level, they activate instantly, which gives you a fantastic enemy canceller. You can pretty much keep bosses from acting the entire fight if you play things right.

I especially like Tios cancel move since it hits multiple targets...Sarge wrote:I bought a Dreamcast just for Grandia II. Great game. So gratifying to hear that shouted midbattle. That and it being heard in the same voice actor as Leonardo from TMNT as a kid, makes it even more awesome.
