Never think that a review has to be read before seeing a movie. Next time you are at a library check out Ebert's 4 Star Reviews or Ebert's Your Movie Sucks. They are beyond enjoyable and will have you grinning with the first to the last sentences.
And again, be your own judge, but don't dismiss someone who has studied the art of film and wordsmith.Do please seek out Ebert. Movies were his life. Not just Summer blockbusters, the man went to every movie festival possible in and outside of the USA. Many of his favorite movies are almost unknown.
I also disagree with him a lot, but the cool thing about it is that with critics is that it's up to you if you care about their opinion or not.

Also, Ebert's screenplays for Russ Meyer are awesome. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is definitely one of my all-time favorite movies.
I disagreed with a lot of Ebert's opinions on movies but I really respect his work. Now that he's gone I feel like I no longer have a go-to critic whose views on movies I'm interested in reading. I kind of just click on random reviews through Rotten Tomatoes and hope for the best.

Harry Houdini was known for stating that if you can make the eyes see and the ears listen, the mind will believe.
I do my fair share of card tricks, but unlike Houdini I cannot escape anything made by man. I've once found myself lost in a Banana Republic dressing room, but tricks aren't the subject of AN HONEST LIAR. The film is about deception in more ways than one.
In short, the movie is about a magician who has more up his sleeve than you would guess. As his tricks of magic are astounding, jis personal life is even more perplexing. As this documentary twists and turns you care less and less about the magic and more about the man the film surrounds.
AN HONEST LIAR does speak about a magician who called out physics and religious leaders, and all of that is stupendous, but the documentary is an incredible summary of a man's life to tell people not to be duped.
Streaming on Netflix, worth your time.
Ohh's and Ahh's are great entertainment. B

I just finished Frontier(s), a 2007 French horror film. I liked it; it takes the basic premise of something like Texas Chainsaw Massacre but then layers in French racial and gender politics in a way that I really liked. It's completely brutal but that brutality feels like a raw expression of frustration at the state of the country. It's a flawed film, but I'm glad I saw it. The film is full of super-intense horror akin to High Tension and The Descent.

Ok, I did it. I know how bad the reviews have been, but I wasn't coming in with super high expectations either. It was my love for games that brought me here. Having said that, the trailer certainly doesn't do the film justice (neither does this poster, not once was San Francisco under attack either!) Even a few cameos, including those you might miss if you're not paying attention, human and video characters alike.

This place was PACKED with A-List dudes. And when I say "A-List", I mean in both acumen, character, and presence in Hollywood. It's a pretty huge deal, and I'm glad you were able to attend.
