I really loved "It Follows". It isn't the best movie I've seen, not even top 20 material...but, certainly the best horror of the year so far. I suppose it could be polarizing depending on how you view the material, and the motivations as mentioned. Is it meant to be symbolic? Or perhaps it just wants to play with some popular conventions of the horror genre in an unfamiliar way, this is the way I like to look at it. Check out the budget on the film, that makes it a little more impressive in my opinion, and I loved the lead.dsheinem wrote:Finally saw "It Follows." It was ok - nicely paced and well shot, moody, well acted, etc...but the last act was shit and the ending worse. Have there been any stronger horror films yet this year?
What was the last movie you've seen?

I also saw It Follows, agree the pool scene was questionable, but I loved the movie.

More people need to know about this work of art. I only knew about the project about a couple of months and the trailer was really goodLuke wrote:My Brother in law got to see it on the big screen at Comic Con. After the movie was over The HOFF came out and performed the title track.Pulsar_t wrote:

Fun and free, what else is there to say?

Just finished Ex Machina, which was pretty strong! If you are looking for a good recent sci fi film that favors cerebral writing and gorgeous shots over guns and tons of overdone CGI, it is an easy reccommendation.

Why does it have to be a choice? Why can't I have cerebral writing and gorgeous shots in between overdone CGI guns?dsheinem wrote:Just finished Ex Machina, which was pretty strong! Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Kung Fu Hustle, still a feel good movie to me and so over the top in parts.

Okay...now I finally have scratched a mental itch that has been bothering me for a while.

Saw Ant-Man. I went in with low expectations and ended up having a really good time. It used the extended Marvel universe cleverly without feeling like a plug for the next movie (except for maybe one line where they slipped in reference to Spider-Man).
The characters were likable, the humor was decent and I liked what they did with Pym and thought it was brilliant that they went with the Scott Lang Ant-Man. It allowed them to basically make a fusion between a super hero film and a heist film instead of just another "science guy becomes super guy" film.
I fully expected this to be a misstep for the Marvel movie franchise but I feel I was wrong.

Saw Kingsman. Fun, funny, surprisingly deliciously violent, but too long - the movie needed a better editor for the last half especially....
