I love this article so much it hurts a little. They're perfectly laying out all of the points I've tried to make about this console.

Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

In response to that article, I say huzzah, although I wonder what the big deal is, you all have been hearing me tout the same thing, albeit not so eloquently the entire time!
P.S. I also feel like all the awesome things I say, do not get expressed on the forums and instead are said towards Cronozilla. We need to post out chat logs some days!

Since the collective public cannot allow a positive editorial to stand unopposed, here's the negative article from Forbes to stomp it's feet and go "no no no, it IS bad! see!" http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/ ... isservice/
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Forbes is a load of crap though.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yeah, I'd agree. The last couple years people have been using them as a legitimate source, though. Which sounds insane.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Forbes may not be a gaming source, but they are an important source when it comes to business and finance so I'm not sure it's fair to poo poo them just because you don't like what they're saying. Mind you I will give you that this here is an opinion piece though, just like the article it tears into, but it still comes back to some business sense.
The guy is right, and to just quote directly with a copy and paste: but I take issue with the way this argument is presented, blaming the consumer for not recognizing Nintendo’s genius, rather than laying much, if any, responsibility with Nintendo itself for the Wii U’s failure. It reminds me a lot of Nintendo’s own defense of the system saying that consumers “just didn’t get what they were trying to do.”
You really can't argue that one. Fans will lay the blame anywhere but the home office, and to back that up the home office coddles the denial saying people don't get them. It's not that people don't get them, they do and don't want it, or it would sell like crack again like the Wii did. The issue has never been the software, ever, and even he says that. It's their boneheaded decisions with hardware and business relationships with their partners. In the end though he is right, by patting them on the back and saying it's everyone elses fault but your(NCL) own it just lets them ride the denial wave into still not learning from their mistakes. The NX needs to see what they fouled up and do it right next time or else they will lose both the gamers and the rest of the game developers who care and they can not stand alone.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
But, as always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Media and consumers do write off new hardware quickly if it doesn't impress, and rarely look back to find out the console they spurned has built up a library of great games. By the time they do look back, it's often too late to matter.
Nintendo makes decisions that don't do them any favors in the long term: regularly sacrificing hardward power for lower production costs/selling points, and failing to generate goodwill among other developers.
Wii U is (overall) an awesome little console. But it's never going to be a big console and blame for that should be shared between Nintendo, media, and consumers alike.
It's no wonder people keep clamoring for Nintendo to bow out of hardware and turn into a dedicated software company. As a company, they are simply much better at creating compelling software than hardware - which is where that old Nintendo fanboy chestnut of "it's the quality of games that matters, not the <fill in the blank>..." Personally, I doubt that we'd see the current level of quality maintained if Nintendo ever did go full third party, but it's easy to understand the sentiment.
