If not, the Bayonetta one should do.
It's true. Sexy Fox Mcloud totally did it for me!

I don't know if its unpopular per se, but it isn't all that uncommon in popular games, so I'm throwing it out anyways.

Maze like designs in levels, or using the same exact assets in a way that makes it confusing to know where you are. The infamous Halo level, dungeons in MANY games, interiors in certain open world games (looking at you, Bethesda), etc. are all perpetrators.

I like Golvellius on the Master System a lot more than the original Legend of Zelda.

I think Sunshine was better than the original Mario 64, but Galaxy 2 is the best game in the whole series.

Mario Sunshine is cool with me. The game gets too much hate, in my opinion. Galaxy, on the other hand, I find a bit overrated (Galaxy 1, I mean, I still haven't properly played Galaxy 2 properly).

Besides superficial appearances they aren't similar games at all though. Structure and pacing is completely different. Golvellius feels more like a companion to The Guardian Legend.

In any event I don't think Golvellius is particularly stellar. And Golden Axe Warrior, certainly the closest thing on SMS to the original Zelda, is subpar as well.

Best "Zelda clone" from back in the day is Neutopia on PC Engine. Very well-crafted with a ridiculously underrated soundtrack. I love it. Still have yet to play the sequel though.

I agree they're not really similar, nor is it really a clone since the original MSX version was made pretty much at the same time as Zelda. They're still comparable as action adventure titles though.

Comparing it to Guardian Legend makes sense considering both games are by Compile. Guardian Legend is sort of an evolution on the concept.

I still find it really fun and appealing and the English translation for the Master System is hilarious. It's by no means a perfect game but neither is Zelda despite the pedestal it resides on.

I think that at the time of its release (Feb '86) The Legend of Zelda was the best game ever made.

1986 was a hell of a year for notable releases.

I think it's sad people will skip out on playing the King's Field series because it has "bad graphics", yet they have no problem playing Minecraft for hours on end.

Here's Minecraft, a game countless people spend countless hours playing.

Here's the very first King's Field, a game nobody played but me.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
