I realize now that I've seen Mallrats too many times. I could honestly quote the entire movie.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of movies I could that with.

About a million things, but I cant express myself monosyllabically enough for you to understand them all.

Conversation that actually took place last night:

Friend: Watched THE DARK KNIGHT again today.

Me: Always a good choice.

Friend: Yeah, but did you ever notice that the entire cell phone thing is an advanced version of sonar, and that Batman is using sonar like how an actual bat uses it?

Me: They call it sonar in the mo...Wait. Did you just catch that today?

Friend: Shut up.

Just listened to a candid interview with Ryan Reynolds where he said he hated shooting Deadpool. He also said that "If the movie sucks, it's my fault. But if the movie is great the director will get all the credit". That's one preemptive strike against critics.

I don't think Deadpool will be terrible...Ryan isn't so sure.

Nothing could be worse than the Green Lantern. I felt sorry for Ryan the writing and effects in that movie just sucked :P.

The new Aunt May... may cause boners.

I'm so for this change. Thor in the movie universe is always Thor. Aunt May can be a cute 50 year old. Why not?

Der Todesking (NSFW trailer, aka The Death King/The King of Death) - I first learned about this movie probably about 8-9 years ago when I got the German grossout splatter-flick Nekromantik on DVD and the trailer for this was included as a special feature. It's finally been released on video (even blu-ray!) so I finally watched it! I really liked it, even though it's not the kind of movie I would recommend to most people. The story is pretty non-existent. It's an anthology broken up by days of the week, telling a different story based on suicide (and sometimes murder) and some extra footage of a decaying corpse.

When I was studying film theory, one thing that always stood out in my mind was an essay by Maya Deren in which she declares that the amateur filmmaker is more artistically significant than the professional since the root of amateur is "amator" (lover) and an amateur is someone whose expression is motivated by love. With that in mind, I'd say that Der Todesking is amateurish in the best sense of the word. The director, Jorg Buttgereit is clearly inspired by grossout cinema and horror movies and was looking to tell a story of despair, isolation, and repulsion as I think only a young person with a lot of gall can. It's not nearly as sloppily made as Nerkromantik but I doubt it would have appeal to any sort of casual viewer, or even a casual horror fan. Still, for someone willing to contemplate death and a fondness for European weirdness, this movie is an interesting one.
