25 Episodes into Monster and enjoying it so far.

Also looking into some new anime that just started airing. Thinking about checking out Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite Kaku Tatakaeri(Gate: The Self-Defense Forces Fight Like This in That Place) and Gangsta. Gate sounds like an interesting concept basically a portal opens between a fantasy world and the modern world and because diplomacy is bullshit they go to war. Gangsta on the other hand just looks awesome period  .

Would you guys recommend Record of the Lodoss War? I'm intrigued by it.

Overall yes, but there's a couple of caveats.

You should know going in that this series was made to promote a larger RPG franchise. If you're not already familiar with the RPG franchise, you can still enjoy the series. Just don't expect everything to be explained to you. You're better off to just go with it.

The first thirteen episodes are animated by Madhouse around 1990ish. This means two things: Madhouse makes awesome animation, and there are a lot of lingering 1980s anime tropes. The whole thing feels a little bit dated.

You should also know that the Rankin and Bass version of the Hobbit was very influential on this anime. If you haven't seen that already, watch it first. Record of Lodoss War feels like an anime response to Rankin and Bass's the Hobbit.

Finally, I should mention that it's been a number of years since I watched this. If I re-watched it today, I may feel differently. Take what I say with a grain of salt.

I would recommend the OVA series but say you should skip everything else. Loddos is a fun "D&D the anime" kind of show with some beautiful artwork and IMO totally amazing opening and closing themes. AND hot elf chicks. Don't expect anything world-shaking, but it's a series I think fondly of.

Never watched Record of the Lodoss War myself but if I remember correctly I've heard only good things about it.

Also caught a few more of the anime that started getting subbed over the last week.

Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Seneki

Looks like it will be an awesome anime really liking the animation and the characters are cute. The action looks like it's going to be pretty great as well with really destructive magic and fighting. Show seems like it's going to go pretty heavy on the tragedy though and the ending kind of spoils a lot. Some people are comparing it to Akame Ga Kill. Definitely my favorite show out of these four and possibly in the running for the top spot this season if they don't make it to predictable.

Ushio & Tora

Seems like it's going to be cheezy as hell reminds me of something I would have seen on Toonami back in the day. First episode didn't really blow me away, but it has potential. Seems like it is a reboot of an older show I'd never seen.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu(Aoharu x Machinegun)

I like survival game style anime so I thought I would enjoy this and then the truth was revealed this is actually what I would label a Pretty Boy show in disguise. The main character is "female", but it is obvious what they were going for and the cast aren't all aware of her sex either  . Seems like an interesting show based around tournament style airsoft survival games so I will stick with it for at least a few more episodes because the combat was actually really nicely done in this episode. However if they start focusing heavily on awkward boy on boy action then It's quickly going to find it's way off my list :P .

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime(Snow White with the Red Hair)

Animation and cast is nice, but the story wasn't super appealing. First episode references snow whites story pretty heavily, but with a couple decent twists. Things were a little slow though and it didn't really feel like a ton happened. The episode kind of felt like a setup to introduce characters though so I'm hoping the pace picks up a little and things get more interesting with the coming episodes.

As other posters said, stick with the 13 episode OVA series; Record of Lodoss War. The art and animation is great, but the plot is just standard 80s fantasy stuff. The TV series, Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight is total crap, don't bother with that.

There are other related anime series that take place in the same world as Lodoss:

Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture
Legend of Crystania: the Chaos Ring OVA
Rune Soldier

I haven't watched any of that personally though, so I can't offer an opinion.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Oh man, Legend of Crystania was one of the first anime I ever watched. It has a special place in my heart but it's a mess. The movie is incredibly boring but provides information necessary to understanding the OVAs. The three-part OVA series is better but by the end it devolves into a confusing-for-confusion's-sake mindfuck. I can't in good conscious recommend it to anyone unless you're REALLY looking for some weird relic of 90s anime.

The most interesting thing about it is the fact that the animation director is Akio Watanabe, aka Poyoyon Rock, who later became famous as a moe-character designer (Popotan, Nurse Witch Komugi, Monogatari series, Bullet Soul). But you sure as hell won't recognize any of his cute styles in Crystania!

Wanted to watch something a little light so I started up Ore Monogatari!!. Loving it so far probably in part because I can relate to the main character. Anyways it's a really cute romance anime with a socially awkward "guerrilla" as the main character. It's a really positive feel good show too so it's a nice picker upper if your feeling run down.

Opening

Show really hits it's stride after episode 3.

Just got to Episode 38 of Monster and am super excited to see it picking back up again. Been watching it on and off over the past few weeks since there are so many shows airing now that I've started watching. I'm in the middle of the Book Donation Ceremony for those that have watched and it's just perfectly insane. This show really shines when all the characters plot lines intersect and it looks like all of them are about to come crashing together which should be awesome. Can't wait to see where the go with the second half of the series.
