Well they must have been aiming for mediocrity because that's what I was presented.

Yeah, as a fan of Arnold, I plan to see it, but the trailers haven't exactly wowed me.

After the fourth Terminator, I've entirely given up on the franchise. The first one is the only one I see myself revisiting in the future.

Anyway, I today I finally watched The FP which is basically a post-apocalyptic Dance Dance Revolution movie. IMO it's not quite as amazing as it could have been but it lived up to my expectations! It's seriously stupid (on purpose) and that makes it pretty fun to watch. I recommend watching it with alcohol and friends who have played DDR and like bad movies.
The only thing I'm not too keen on is copious use of the N-word paired a noticeable lack of black actors. STILL, for a movie this dumb, I think it's forgivable. And they make up the acronym of "Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished" and I guess that makes its usage less bad, I guess?

From a Genysis review somewhere on the web

Code: Select all

My only hope is that one day the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) becomes self-aware and – after seeing the never-ending torrent of Terminator movies in production – decides to wipe out humanity. Until that fateful day, we’re forced to endure this gauntlet of diminishing returns. Paramount can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

Just got back from Genesys.

If you are a fan of the franchise then I think you should see it. It explores some of the themes from The Sarah Conner Chronicles and goes with a lot of ideas that would have been there had the original Terminator been created in the last decade.

The biggest problem with the movie is due to the fact that the original two movies had contradictory ideas of the timeline within each movie. Both of them manage to use stable time loops alongside a message of the future being malleable. Genesys, as a result, isn't really sure which to believe and just like the first two goes with both. However, since the plot cares more about the nature of the timeline the holes show through.

That said, it was still a highly enjoyable movie and it didn't fall into the trap of using too many references to the first two like how Terminator 3 did. The few it does use are akin to how in every James Bond movie you will hear "Bond, James Bond."

They aimed for a Spielberg love fest with dinosaurs that would break box office records.

They achieved that, and way more. The word "mediocre" doesn't even belong in a description of J WORLD (that's what I should call it). It's what CABIN IN THE WOODS was to slasher films, but better. It emphasizes stupidity and cliches for a reason. If you try to take a movie about a dinosaur park seriously, especially at this time, seek professional help. Or call your Grandma and talk about those great Talkies from the days past.

JURASSIC WORLD is meant to be filled with references and silly things, and it works. I works really, really well. The BO don't lie....

I just wish JW had a better successor for John Hammond then Masrani I just wasn't feeling him.
At least we don't have to worry about him popping up in a sequel though  .
My favorite character would probably be either Lowery and Owen.

There's a difference between the suspension of disbelief for the sake of the film's plot and then there's a complete and total disconnect from your neural pathways. Jurassic World requires the latter and I cannot succumb to that.

I'll take the talkies, thank you very much.

Fair is fair.

All I'm saying is that when you see a trailer for a movie that involves cloning dinosaurs in a theme park, and a dude riding a motorcycle along velociraptors...you can't expect any suspension of disbelief.

And I know where you are coming from as there are hundreds of movies I don't like because they try to take themselves seriously, when they are plain silly. But like KUNG FURY and KUNG-FU HUSTLE, J WORLD is a "sit back and have fun with it" movie. Most movies don't deliver on that (looking at you Terminator Genysis).

FRUITVALE STATION

A film that knows both where it's heart is as well as it's brain.

A few years ago a cop "mistook" his pistol for a taser (uh-huh) and killed a young black Father on a New Year's night. The film begins with actual footage of the incident, immediately gripping your emotions.

Of course the cop is white and a mega-asshole, but some cops are indeed white and mega-assholes. The story of the film comes from eye-witnesses of the incident, so the cop character may not have been exaggerated solely for the fact to incite anger.

The man who was murdered (it was murder) is shown in a bit of a likeable light to some...I thought he was an asshole too. He had spent time in prison, disobeyed authority over and over, sold drugs, and smoked weed around children.

There's also a grueling scene where he calls his Grandma to help teach a pretty white woman how to fry catfish, because apparently white people have no clue about Southern cooking (or frying for that matter).

These things aside, FRUITVALE STATION is easily a 3 out of 4 stars movie. The direction is exceptional, the characters are believable albeit cliche, and the story of the happenings in the film are culturally significant. It also gets people talking, which is always a good thing. I saw it with four people and we all had a different take on it.

It's streaming on Netflix, and I suggest you watch it if you're looking for a movie you may have not heard of.
