It's like she's morphed into the moral guardians of the late '90s/early '00s that freaked out after Columbine.

That's actually been happening lately. Doom 4's lead character artist laughed off Sarkeesian's and McIntosh's bellyaching:

And one of the developers of the next Deus Ex went on Reddit recently to complain about the crap he's been getting over the subject matter of Mankind Divided:

The thing about these people is that their whole schtick is feeling morally superior to the next guy. It's the same mentality that was behind the puritans, and later, the alcohol prohibitionists. If you ignore them, mock them, laugh them off, they have nothing. Especially now that game devs and publishers are catching on to the fact that A): muckraking gaming "journalists" and activists no longer drives sales of games like they did 10 years ago (Youtube has taken over that), and B): "SJW" types don't buy very many games themselves. Look up the disaster that was Sunset for more on that. Meanwhile, Hatred, a game they vilified, managed to chart #1 on Steam for a bit.
