you know, you could always sell drugs!

heh, just joshing.

Sorry to hear the bad times bro. I totally get what it feels like when you noticed the hell your parents are going through just to keep the roof over you and your siblings heads (if you have any).

You should talk to them (if you haven't already), offer up that you are willing to put up your collection before going and selling it off. See if there is anything else you could do to help out. Maybe dad is having a hard time getting more hours because he knows he still has all that at home shit he has to take care of in off hours. Or mom is just way to stressed with the baby to even think about picking up an exta hour after night...

"oh God no, I gotta make dinner, and pack the lunches, and wash the laundry, I can't take another hour of work."

"but ma, I can cook and take care of the baby... don't worry."

I know, sounds whimsical and cliche... but you get what I'm saying... right?

If all else fails, even if this doesn't help them get an extra hour of work or more money in their pocket to help pay the bills. It certainly relieve the stress so they can think more clearly about the problems. When it was my brothers and mom living on welfare you have no idea how much of a relief you could see in my mom's eyes when she'd come home to dinner and a clean living room. Nothing special, probably spaghetti and the stuff was pushed under the couch (were boys... come on), but it still put a smile on her face... like all those problems aren't there for the moment.

bare in mind, I don't know how old you are, nor what grade you are in... I tried to keep this in general terms of if you're 12 to if you're 20

If you're more on the older side... hunt for a job, hunt like hell. Yeah the job market is crap as all hell right now, but as long as you're willing you should be able to find something. I'm not talking like McDonalds... like go down to the shops or tobacco fields and offer up cheap hard labour. You'll be amazed how GOOD a round at your Genny feels after a long days hard work. It's better then sex with two women... I'm not kidding! I got a job at like 14, I didn't give any of the money to my parents... but instead I paid for my lunch at school, clothes, videogames, everything. I basically tried to reduce their cost of me down to as little as possible.

I was always happy knowing that before my dad died I was able to tell him that he inspired me to want children because I want to feel the pride of working that hard for your children.

Oh and Moz, I get your cynicism and sardonic quips. But I mean come on, I remember when I was in middle school and in between the 3 dollar Puma's and dining room hair cuts, when I got a new pair of nice jeans or a new video game... I showed it off. We all do! You should of seen me go crazy with my friends when I got a Sega CD!

I take back nothing I said. In fact, I get to post this again:

Not once in my life have I ever had to sell something that I didn't want to. No one in my family buys extravagant shit. Because of that, we all get by just fine.

I do agree thoroughly with the spending habits of Americans.

BUT

this isn't always the case. My family has had to sell off some of their stuff, and it had nothing to do with bad credit spending habits. My mother was the one who taught me that spending on credit is a horrible thing and is not worth it. Better to save for it. But sometimes emergencies happen. Sometimes you lose your job, and someone gets ill, and rent goes up that year, and taxes increase... and before you know it... you ain't got enough money.

You are a retard. I am now dummer from having read your post. Also, learn how to type a legible sentence. How can you know the worth of something without seeing it? You don't even know the extent of his collection, idiot. In hard times, its always better to see the glass half full. Saying something negative about someones hardships is no way to help.
You do realize English isn't his first language, right?
There is nothing in his location box that would indicate that. Regardless, Using capital letters at the beginning of sentences and periods at the end of sentences goes a long way. It makes a sentence much more readable, no matter how dum the content is.

He's admitted to it in multiple posts. He's from Bahrain. Arabic is likely is first language.

Saturday Night Live, is there any question they don't have an answer for? ;)

Well my dads job thrives on a good economy when people are buying metal and when the government is building signs etc. Its great when things are going good but the second the economy goes bad that job becomes pretty much profitless. We are currently living off of the numerous small paychecks he gets from the solar company and selling Mona Vie (its a health drink, look it up). But he does have an order for more steel in about 4 months but right now we are pretty much broke. Besides, Im sad to say most of my consoles aside from the Saturn were rarely used. Its a good way to clean out what you REALLY want and what you dont want though.

He should have filled out his location so people would know this. I was really talking about the negativity of his post. As usual though, Moz said something even worst though. The guy is in a rough patch and looking to us for advice and encouragment. The least we could do is help by buying some of his collection and offering him a helping hand. Maybe people feel differently though.

Maybe he should have filled in his location, and yes, what he said does come across as negative, but for all we know, he doesn't see games as a big money thing. He's made other posts about not being able to buy all the stuff some of us have. And yes, I do wish everybody here used proper grammar and spelling, myself included. But this is a site that can be accessed internationally, and its content appeals to an international crowd, so we can't expect everybody to know that.

Look, Corn, I understand you're upset about what a couple of folks have said to Ryan, and I think it's very respectable that you're worried about the kid. We all wish the best for the folks who come here and we're willing to help each other out. But accusing someone of being "retarded" just because he says something critical of someone else definitely isn't going to help the point, especially when one doesn't necessarily know the full story.

Either way, you're a nice guy who got a bit hot under the collar. Happens to the best of us. Just try to watch the insults, and if you feel somebody's causing a problem, get in touch with Racket or one of the mods.

And Mozgus will always be Mozgus.

I think I have grown used to Moz now. Sure he can be a heartless ungrateful bastard at times but he knows his shit about a lot of things and never minces words. It's nice to have that kind of gravity in a discussion.

Ryan, if you really must sell your stuff, I think the best place is to do it here. You'll get a fair price, and who knows, maybe when family finances are back on track you could buy it back if the new owners stick around and want to get rid of it down the line. It sure as hell beats selling to a gamestore or some randomer on ebay. At least you know with us guys it's going to a good home!

I agree with LoD though, you really should talk with your parents. AFAIK you aren't 18 yet (are you 15? I'm terrible with ages/names/dates so forgive me), you have no financial responsibility (or even responsibility full stop) to provide for your family. I'm pretty sure if you discuss it they'll not expect you to sell any of your possessions and judging from previous posts you seemed to have worked pretty hard to get them.

Plus it never hurts to help out around the house. I always did my part for my mum because my dad was such an alcoholic. She was the breadwinner in my family, my dad did nothing but piss the money up a wall every night at the pub. Spent all day watching TV doing nothing. I was glad to help my mum sort shit out we used to have a laugh doing it.

Yeah, I digress. Talk to your family, don't feel that you need to do anything. You aren't responsible for helping out with finances, especially not at your age. The best thing you can do for your parents right now is to try and get a job and use that money for yourself, for your food, clothes etc, anything you might need that your parents would pay for usually. If you buy it yourself it's one less thing they have to budget for. Plus if you are handy with computers and your parents aren't, why not create a finance spreadsheet for household expenses. It might not seem like a huge task to you, but I can sure as hell guarantee they'll appreciate it if they haven't thought to do something like that themselves.

Talk to your folks about what you have discussed with us. Please!
