is shovel knight getting kinda ovverated

i mean dont get me wrong its a fun game and all but its far from one of the best indie games when i think of exceptional indie titles i think of stuff like the binding of isaac,katawa shoujo(if that counts),cave story etc i mean shovelknight is good and all but its not that good

there are alot better platformers out there both from indie and non indie

but what do you think is shovelknight getting abit ovverated

You (and I) might find something like The Binding of Isaac to be a better game (and to be fair, that game is very highly rated as well, probably 50+ people streaming it right now), but Shovel Knight just hit a chord that allowed it to appeal to a massive amount of people.

I don't really care for terms like overrated, but I think its praise is deserved, it is a fine game.

I think it's really good I just think it borrows a little TOO much from other games. I think it's this popular because of how good it is but also for people that don't play retro stuff much it probably hit the spot for them exactly and they think it's in a class of its own

Not for me. It was my game of the year for last year. Absolutely fantastic stuff, but then, I'm partial to NES-style action-platformers like this anyway.

Does it matter? I try not to let people's love or hatred for something effect my opinion of things. I don't really see a reason to call something out for being loved too much. Fans tend to always take things too far.

I don't think Cave Story is a particularly great game, it's well-made, sure, but there's not much to get excited about it. It's also flawed in some regards: Most bosses follow the same pattern and there's a lot of padding in the form of beating each level twice.

Shovel Knight...I think it misses the mark, it's inferior to the game it copies and many of its modern design choices don't seem to it many favours but it doesn't have any of the flaws Cave Story and as a pastiche of 1980s NES platformers , it's one of the better ones.

How that applies to the question in hand, I don't know, I just found them fun if somewhat middling which seems fair to me.

I always thought Shovel Knight was overrated. I started playing it a bit and then just didn't want to anymore, but to each his own. A lot of people LOVE it.

Eh, I dunno. I kind of think asking if something is overrated or not is a little silly... If a lot of people find one game is good, even if I don't, then I think that's fine. If it makes them happy (and they're not hurting anyone else), then good.
