How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Then, I guess the Dreamcast ended due to Sega's bad financial position not because of the bad sales of the console/games.

I wondered this myself. Even the Turbo Grafx hung around for a few years. With a much smaller install base. I wonder if Evil Sony made them sign some form of non-competitive agreement of sorts. Or perhaps with the pirating they thought it might not be worth it?RCBH928 wrote:Well...
If the Wii U is still getting games, then Sega should have kept the Dreamcast on the market. Couldn't they do like Neo-Geo where they release games on both their console and the competitor's? They basically shut a revenue stream of 10m units.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

Both, I would wager. Sales in the US were very good, but in Japan they were pretty poor. If Sega had not been in such a poor financial condition, they might have managed to weather a few poor financial quarters.RCBH928 wrote:Then, I guess the Dreamcast ended due to Sega's bad financial position not because of the bad sales of the console/games.

It is a very fascinating story and it has been covered a lot on the internet. I highly recommend checking things out. There are tons of videos. Essentially, the ease to pirate for the system, the rise of DVD as a format and the numerous marketing and production issues that plagued the system worldwide led to its downfall, but you really can't pinpoint it to a single reason.RCBH928 wrote:Then, I guess the Dreamcast ended due to Sega's bad financial position not because of the bad sales of the console/games.

I lot of folks love to harp on the ease of pirating, but I really don't think that was significant. It was still kinda complicated, and the good self-booting releases didn't come out until Sega was already on the slide.

Also Console Wars, even though that focuses more on the Genesis and Saturn, it's just a good look at Sega during the 90s.noiseredux wrote:Everyone in this thread, go read Service Games The Rise And Fall Of Sega.
