The one-shot kill on bosses makes it worth it for them, though I remember it operating a bit differently. I recall it being the first shot you take in a boss fight regardless, but I haven't used it in years.Omerta wrote:I have a tough time pulling it off when needed, but it must be a useful pro tool if the speed runners take the time to go out of their way to get it.MrPopo wrote:It's obviously not worth using on the trash mobs, but on the bosses that's another story. It's worth getting just to see Dr. Light dressed as Ryu though.

The text screen at the start where Dr. Cain logs in to X's capsule and runs diagnostics? That's totally in the US version and is super cool.Nyukki wrote:Took me a couple of tries to get the game to boot up. When I finally saw the hacker code type intro screen I thought I was playing some sort of weird bootleg. I think whenever I'd played it before on an emulator I must have been repeatedly pressing start at the beginning to skip the intro so never saw that before, unless it's not in the US version?

If you mean the intro with the DOS-style screen and command prompt, it is in the US version.Nyukki wrote:Played a bit just now. The names in the Japanese version are completely different (Icy Penguino!).

I looked at the Japanese names for the bosses, and they're not all that different.
Icy Penguino
Spark Mandriller
Armor Armarge
Launcher Octopuld
Boomerang Kuwanger
Sting Chameleao
Storm Eagleed
Burnin' Noumander (Flame Mammoth, ok that's the only offbeat name I see here)
I also found out that the reason for the Guns N Roses maverick names in X5 came from an unlikely source within Capcom.

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
I remember playing a demo of MMX on the PC many years ago (without knowing what Megaman was) and it still stuck on my mind. The charge shot in particular was super cool, (wall grabbing as well).
MMX is very, very good, a true classic in my opinion. I liked it more than X2. I actually played the PSP remake of X but I also tried the SNES and as I say, i had played a demo version of it on the PC (which is SNES-like). The end boss sequences battle in X2 is interesting though.
I'm considering doing X3 now during TR as I want to get to X4 eventually.
So as you can see, I only actually played the whole game many years later, in fact after playing MMZ games which are absolutely fantastic in my opinion and better than the X games I played so far. As we are talking about the different series, the Zero one is still my favorite in gameplay and possibly storyline consistency etc.
I also like X games much more than the MM ones I played, which were 1, 2 and 3. Maybe I should I also try to forge on to MM4, but my gaming time has been really limited.

I'm going to attempt this.
I'm pretty deeply invested in an RPG right now. But once that's done: Mega Man X.
I've only finished one TR game so far this year. Kinda sad. Like my life.

Beat four of the robot masters in X, Chilly Willy, Barbara Mandrell, Dillon's Rolling Western and Octopussy.

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
I finished this yesterday. Didn't get everything - finished without the helmet, missed one of the e-tanks and 3 of the hearts.
Overall, I thought Mega Man X was a bit of a mixed bag. I had quite a bit of fun on most of the robot master stages, but the sigma stages I found to be pretty universally not fun, just a little frustrating.
I found the mavericks charming enough in their own way, but Sigma is just such a boring non-entity that I've pretty much already forgotten what he looked like.
I like Mega Man X well enough, but I think I'm one of those guys who much prefers classic Mega Man.

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
I think Classic Mega Man and X are different enough in how they play to consider them as very different games, sort of like 2D Mario and 3D Mario. Mega Man X is all about mobility, while Classic is more about tight platforming and careful jumps.
