RE1 will always be the best to me. The acting was so campy that I could really savor every line, whereas in later games it was better to the point of just being meh. RE1's setting is what made all the difference. I guess RE2 and RE3 appealed to the people who want their urban zombie apocalypse, but I much preferred being stranded in a mansion with a fairly traditional mystery. Different tastes, is all. Plus RE1 still has the best soundtrack. The game itself never scared me, but damn if I dont get goosebumps every time I enter the plant42 cabin and that jingle music plays.

To put this in simple terms if there is some sort of a shop in the game it's not a survival horror.

YES FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME

All i usually get is WHAT RE4 omg best gamez

Why the sudden shoot-em-up change? It's really bland now it went from scaring the shit out of you to well angry mexicans that arnt even zombies anymore it reminds me of a BAD horror B movie now with too much gore and gun action i mean if mabey develpoers slapped Nintendo consoles with more shooters people wouldnt have the need to ruin a classic i mean whats next Silent hill/Metal slug cross over?

What, you mean like a shooter?

Like this?

And for the record, they weren't Mexicans, they were Spanish. Big difference.

I started the other way around with Resident Evil 4 being my first entry into the series and then working backwards from then.

I agree with whoever said that the tank controls and static environment style of action game was indeed starting to grow stale. Whether or not people are fond of the changes with RE4, it's inevitable that it would have needed to change.

I do agree that the earlier titles were scarier, more so because these games focused their attention around the horror of a single encounter, instead of taking on a swarm of zombies. Resident Evil 4 in contrast is more about overwhelming you with no place to hid, trapped by the mob. Both are very interesting takes.

Look at RE5 now, there has only been one RE game released with this style of controls and play and already it is labelled as outdated, in contrast to the 4+ PSone and DC titles. Hmmm..
