I use my iPhone for e-mail, talk, dual-factor authentication, navigation, and texting. I also use it as a camera and video camera when I do not have my "nice" cameras with me. While I have the Mega Man II title screen as my wallpaper, I do not have any games on it. (I should probably get some, however.) Overall, I think it is a really neat device, and I am glad that I have it.Luke wrote:People don't use their phone to talk (well, some of us do, but the majority of people don't).

See? Nintendo-phone could solve that.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I do not have any games on it. (I should probably get some, however.

I'm thinking (which is dangerous) "The Teletendo".noiseredux wrote:Phone-U?
Kinda catchy.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
First, Phontendo. Second, the "kids" are buying them because the teens are, and the teens are buying them because the trendy college kids are. And trendy college kids are too hip for Nintendo. Besides, the number one reason I get for why anyone would buy an iPhone (apart from "it's cool") is seamless experience with their iMac/iPad/iTunes. Apple has made a brand out of computing. Nintendo would have to spend 20 years (like Apple did) to market themselves as something more diverse than just games.Luke wrote:What is the benefit of buying an iphone?noiseredux wrote: What would be the benefit of buying a Nintendo phone?
Terrible coverage, close to zero customer service, high price rates and a clunky device. But hey! All the kids are buying them and it is trendy!
And Nintendo games, outside of the nostalgia-inducing Super Smash Bros and Star Fox 64, aren't even cool anymore.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I live in Eastern NC, so perhaps my finger isn't on the pulse of "cool". But I will say when I visit Chicago, Las Vegas, and LA, kids are bonkers for "retro games". That in mind, I haven't been to a big city in over a month, and trends fade fast.o.pwuaioc wrote: And Nintendo games, outside of the nostalgia-inducing Super Smash Bros and Star Fox 64, aren't even cool anymore.
And it wouldn't take twenty years to build a phone. That's nonsense. Technology is an art, and great artists steal. I'd say within a year, if even that, Nintendo could release a phone.
Phontendo? Phonetendo kinda works.

Smartphone market is nearing 2B users, surely there is a place for a 3rd and a 4th competitor other than the 2 main platforms existing today.
Any way I feel like I am living in an alternate reality. I once suggested that Nintendo will be quitting the console market and I was seriously attacked for it. Now I hear more and more people share the same opinion as the inevitable truth.

An unfortunate truth is that the majority of people do not like change. And as someone who is a "businessman" the most difficult thing to do is to get a company to change. True story from a business pitch:RCBH928 wrote: Any way I feel like I am living in an alternate reality. CEO: We can't do that.
Me: Why not?
CEO: Because we haven't done that before.
It's usually arrogance that causes this. CEO's are proud of what they built and simply think their way is the only way. The American furniture industry is a great case study for this. The Broyhill's and Bernhardt's had it made in the shade until they wouldn't listen to new ideas. They're still in business, but they don't actually own it other than by name.
I have a little HDMI stick that I stick into my TV that allows me to watch millions of tv shows, movies, and music videos. Surely you could market a HDMI stick for video games as well. And why should Nintendo not go into the phone business?
Took my wife out for tea today at a local coffee/tea shop. Other than the employees and my wife and I, EVERYONE was on a phone. Not talking, just fucking around with their phone. I can't think of a better time to take advantage of these no attention having clowns.
Distraction = $$$
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Huxley predicted it. Phones are the new soma.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
There already are 3rd, and 4th, and 5th, etc platforms competing. Windows Phone and Blackberry, namely, but stuff like Firefox OS or Amazon Fire (which is Android, but Android without Google) and so on.RCBH928 wrote:Smartphone market is nearing 2B users, surely there is a place for a 3rd and a 4th competitor other than the 2 main platforms existing today.
Consider, the big players in the mobile market these days are all also big infrastructure or service providers. Their phones/tablets leverage that. Building a competitive platform is only getting more and more difficult over time as the standard feature list grows.
