Cheers man. Stage 3 is pretty scary since there's a few spots where literally the entire screen is covered in pink, though some of those bits it seems there are some enemies that cancel all bullets on screen when you kill them (e.g. those kinda swarms of little bugs).

I keep making it to after the power up after the mid level boss, but I guess I'm always out of bombs by the time things get too hectic.

Yeah, those bug swarms and the lamp post looking things both cancel bullets, quite handy. Sadly, they only really show up in the first half of the stage.

Palm has it really rough in the 2nd half, when the little pill bugs start shooting the straight purple lines that trap you in, and the rollers just spew shit out. My best advice there is to be really aggressive, get up in the top 10% of the screen and kill everything before it can fill the screen up. Only the large beetle things have any decent amount of health, and they give you enough time to react once they show up, but before they start their pattern.

Don't give up! This is the hump of the game, but if you can clear the 2nd half of stage 3, you can at least make it to the last boss, if not clear. You've got this! :)

Thanks dude. If Cave shmups have taught me one thing, it is to never give up. To not be scared and hide in the corner, but to take life by the balls and charge down the middle straight into enemy fire. If you die, you die gloriously with no regrets!

Got about 83 mil today, phone ran outta juice so no pic unfortunately.

Still on stage 3 somewhere past the mini boss. I somehow scored much better on level 1 and 2 than before, got 25 mil on level 1 when a normal run usually gets me about 18.

Are MAME scores accepted?

Black Label, Normal
Luddite - 220,109,590 - Stage 5 - Reco - MAME

Finally, when yesterday I got past the stage 3 and it's annoying boss, it kind of instantly opened the door to the rest of the game. To my surprise today I marched straight to the stage 5 boss. Although she kicked my ass with not much resistance from my part, I said to her I will be back, soon.

Ok, I finally got the Xbox 360 version of this game. And I made a new record:

Black Label - Original
Luddite - 280,814,953 - Stage 5 - Reco - 360

Image

MAME and 360 versions play little bit different. I think MAME is little bit harder because it lacks slowdowns in some really tight spots like in the stage 3 boss. But then again stage 2 boss is little bit harder in 360 because it somehow manages to start couple of attacks I don't see in MAME if I try to kill it as fast as possible. Actually same this happens with Stage 3 boss but massive slowdowns still make it quite a lot easier in 360. It would be nice to know how close 360 version is to PCB version.

Sorry for the late update, but nice score Luddite! Almost to the clear already!

The 360 port does have more slowdown than the actual PCB, and Mame is missing slowdown almost entirely, unless you start messing with blitter settings, but I ahven't found anything that is consistent (Something like 63% seems to make the first 2 stages close, but then Stage 3 Boss has way too much slowdown, more than the port. Less than that and you are missing slowdown during Stage 3 itself.)

Keep at it :)

Kidpanda: Its been a while since I've been at this game, so I can't tell off the cuff if your newest Maniac score is for 1.5 or Black Label xD Lemme know and I'll get it up on the board!

Also went through the thread and posted up all the scores I've somehow missed.

Dunpeal, you better get working with this game again since I managed to knock you down, barely. :)

Black Label - Original
Luddite - 372,562,796 - Stage 5 - Reco - 360

I also finally 1CC'd the game! 8) The goal I've been working on for the last five weeks or so. And it's my first 1CC ever. The 1CC run didn't give me the highest score though.
