If we are allowed zero anonymity, how free would our speech continue to flow online? Would we get as worked up if we knew exactly who was saying what? Would we put as much credence into the words of someone if we knew more about them? Would we put more? A non-anonymous internet would be an interesting experience.

I realize that's not much of a random gaming thought though.

I want to play a local co-op same-screen roguelike in the vein of say Shiren the Wanderer.
On the free speech side, I wouldn't change a thing in how I behave, because I actually think rationally and don't act out in raw emotions. I wouldn't necessarily give people more or less credence if I knew more about them. I rarely get worked up and when I do, it isn't a big deal. I tend to realize that the written word can lead to a lot of confusion amidst people and tone is inferred and always inferred negatively.

On the Roguelike question, I don't play many of those, but I did some research and you might want to check out Legend of Dungeon which allows for 4 player local co-op and is on sale for 40% off right now at the humble bundle store.

I've come across news comments in which people, logged into their Facebook account, make the most outrageous racist, sexist, homophobic, and downright ignorant statements. Some people say this out in real life, too.

I think kids trolling gratia trolling would largely be stamped out, but I don't think it would substantially change.

It's not that so much as people will just be trolling assholes because with anonymity they can get away with it. On the flipside, if someone knew that the person trolling them was a 10 year old, they might not get worked up about it regardless.
Legend of Dungeon[/url] which allows for 4 player local co-op
Now that looks pretty promising. Thanks for the link man.

I need to watch what I say around my daughter.

This morning she exclaimed "Motherfucking birds!"

Yes, we had been playing Ninja Gaiden earlier.

The wife is not happy.

I'm not much of a curser, usually, but I guess old hard-as-hell 8-bit games bring out the worst in me.

Haha! I am worried about my daughter picking up my wife's and my dialog. My wife and I talk sometimes in freaky abbreviations of nouns like, "You wan Chee foo? How Bow Jam Jews? Wandus?" which translates to, "Do you want Chinese Food? How About Jimmy John's? Wendy's?"

I do hope she picks up my exclamations though. "Fraggle Rock," "RazzleFrazzleSazmagrazz!" and saying hello to everyone and everything in every room I enter, "I Britty! I Roz! Hi Kitty!" regardless of how many times I enter a room. It drives my wife crazy.

If we play Perfect Dark though....oh man. The only time I talk like a crazy sailor, "FUCKING PEACE SIM! FUCKING N-BOMB! N-BOMB TO THE MARKLAR TO THE NECROB TO THE N-BOMB! FUCKING PEACE SIM! FUCKING PEACE SIM! FUUUUUCCCCKKKIIIINNNNGGGG PEACE SIM!"

I think if your wife had played Ninja Gaiden, she'd understand. ;)

Nobody is arguing that. I've been very explicit about what "consequences" I mean: Violence, firings, public humilliations and so on.

Twitch always has the same set of games streaming. You really have to dig deep to see someone playing something different.
