Thing is, any time I went to a Starbucks, they simply REFUSE to allow you to call it anything else. "Can I have a medium size coffee?" - "You mean Grande?" - "Uh, I guess. Just give me whatever your medium size is." - "OK, that's Grande. You want a Grande?" - "YES, GIVE ME A FUCKING GRANDE!"

Any one read The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy?
Can you please explain to me what is it exactly? Is it a story like Harry Potter and The Da Vinci Code? I need something to listen to on long car trips and I am thinking of getting this on audiobooks.
Feel free to recommend any non-fiction books.

Haha, oh no, The Hitchhiker's Guide is science fiction, and it's a comedy that ranges from dry wit to completely goofball and ridiculous. I don't know if you'd enjoy it.RCBH928 wrote:Any one read The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy?

I have, yeah, though not in a while. On the one hand, yes, it's a story, with each volume adding to the overall narrative. I think a lot of the appeal, however, is in the descriptions and explanations, and the general humor that pervades them.
I think the different versions for different media (radio shows, plays, video games, movie, etc) were tuned to that instead of just trying to do the books.
If you've seen the 2005 movie, it's not 100% successful per se, but probably gives a good general idea of the kind of humor and appeal the series has.
But, yeah, comparing it to something like the Da Vinci Code is like comparing Monty Python and the Holy Grail to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. They're just not trying to do the same thing.
Regarding non-fiction, um, Masters of Doom and Console Wars were pretty good reads, if you have interest in 90s gaming.

I think RCBH928 should get a bunch of Tom Clancy novels in audio book format. That should be entertaining.

You guys want to see more fun references in children's cartoons?
The cartoon: (Clarence)

What it is referencing:

The implications of this are somewhat horrifying.
