What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
It's playable but it never rises above the level of being mediocre. Only reason I beat it was because I have an odd desire to beat crappy games whenever I play them. Probably stems from the fact that I want to finish them so I can never have an excuse to go back and play them again.

Well, unfortunately Quake II: The Reckoning is currently having issues. Apparently some sort of update on Steam back in 2014 completely hosed both of the Quake II mission packs. There are some workarounds, but when I finally managed to get The Reckoning working, the first map repeatedly failed to load. More troubleshooting to get it to work. Argh, this is annoying...
...but I got Quake II: Ground Zero to work using the same workarounds, and so far, there have been no problems with loading, so I've started playing through it. I only got about an hour to play last night, and half of it was messing around trying to get these two to work, so I'm still in the first set of levels. Already this game is a lot tougher though, mainly due to the lack of equipment early on.
I'm liking the proximity mine launcher though, it has already come in handy quite a bit for taking out those asshats with grenade launchers. I also finally grabbed a backpack, so I don't have to put up with that pisspoor starting cap on shotgun shells. Now to go kill the first Tank Commander of the game without a rocket launcher. Wee.

Weird; I never experienced any issues with the Q2 expansion packs with my Steam copies. Did you try the obvious uninstalling Q2 and the mission packs, nuking the directories, and then reinstalling?

Yeah. Apparently this is a fairly common issue though, as the forums are rife with people asking help on it. Basically whenever I try launching either Mission Pack from Steam, Bootstrapper fails. Since Reckoning has a map issue, I'll probably end up wiping all of it and then reinstalling all of it again to see if it helps, but since I can play Ground Zero now, I'll just continue on with that for the time being.MrPopo wrote:Weird; I never experienced any issues with the Q2 expansion packs with my Steam copies. Much like me playing the first Shellshock, and to a lesser extent, Vietcong after the great tunnel huntFragems wrote:It's playable but it never rises above the level of being mediocre. So I finally tried Halo. Got an Xbox On with the Halo and tried the first one. Sorry, but the game blows LOL. Really though, has the driving always been so terrible?

Oh forgot to mention something weird about Shellshock 2 by the end of the game I finally found the best weapon.... the butt of a rifle
. Seriously a zombie can take infinite amounts of ammo to the chest without dying or you can smack him anywhere on the body 2-3 times to kill him. With that logic you would think the knife/machete would be a great weapon however it is nerfed to badly that you have to hack at an enemy for 30+ seconds in order to kill him even if you sneak up on him.

I haven't played System Shock 2 since 2002, but I still remember those damn rumblers would take an entire assault rifle clip and keep on coming. Beware the Heart Of The Many!
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Well, playing on through Quake 2: Ground Zero. I have made it out of the mines and into the warehouses. Turrets totally suck. Stalkers also totally suck, they're like big hopping spiders with freaking laserbeams strapped to their heads.
I'm still loving the proximity launcher, and the grenade launcher is still a beast. I'm finding enough ammo and finally have enough variety with my weapons to really let loose. I'm not impressed with the ETF rifle though. It seems too weak to be of much use. Even basic guards take a few potshots.
When do the medics show up? I'm already prepping by turning enemy corpses into gibs with the blaster every chance I get. No way do I want a gladiator I already put down to ream me from behind with his railgun.

The medics you don't actually have to worry about too much in that regard; basically what'll happen is you get to a room, pick off some mobs, more come around a corner so you pick those up, and they just keep coming. Once you realize the medic commander is there and spawning mobs out of thin air you just rush it and blow it to hell.
The ETF rifle is basically there to relieve some ammo pressure; it is an uninspiring weapon.
And yes, fucker turrets and stalkers. Have you hit the rocket turrets yet?
