You guys...oh, oh man...
First you need to watch The Raid: Redemption.

While I am not a big fan of that trailer, it does show some of the accolades the movie received upon its release, and I agree with them. At the time I first saw it, I would say The Raid easily ranked alongside other personal favorites like Police Story, Fist of Legend, Ong Bak, and Ip Man. For those of you who aren't familiar, these are some of the highlights of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Tony Jaa, and Donny Yen's careers, and I would heartily recommend them to anyone who is interested in East/Southeast Asian cinema or action films regardless of region.
Then The Raid 2: Berandal came out.

The Raid 2 is the greatest action film I have ever seen.

Have you seen Desolation of Smaug?Ack wrote: The Raid 2 is the greatest action film I have ever seen.
Is Jason Statham even in The Raid 2?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Yes to Desolation and I found it to be lesser than the Lord of the Rings films.
No, and after seeing Statham and Jet Li in War together, I don't know how good a martial arts movie with Statham would actually be.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Yeah so I guess I've got to watch the Raid movies now. Never even heard of these but then again foreign action films aren't really my forte.
As someone who read The Hobbit multiple times, I found the films portraying it to be not so good. I still went and saw all three in the theater as they came out of course. I'd say if you enjoyed the films but not read the book, read the book. (If you don't you won't understand how Tom Bombadil is the true villain of Middle-earth.)

As someone who has read The Hobbit multiple times I loved the film for helping tie the work into LotR better than Tolkein did (and to be fair to Tolkein it used to be a stand alone story). There's a lot of parts of the book which take advantage of how brief writing can be to do large time skips over cool sequences that we get to see in all their glory in the movie. And the dwarves actually get characterization, even if you still can't remember most of their names.Exhuminator wrote:As someone who read The Hobbit multiple times, I found the films portraying it to be not so good. Was stuff changed? Yes. A good movie adaptation takes advantage of the medium. But I don't think it was changed in a bad way.

Movies aren't books. So there is that.
There's also the point that a book that takes about an hour to read shouldn't be stretched out to an eight hour movie. I have nothing against people who like films by Peter Jackson, but I also don't have anything for them either. Two words followed by one: King Kong: Yikes.
Peter deserves an A for effort, but his movies are going to age terribly.
