Everything can be funny if done properly. A masterful joke might make you go "too soon" afterwards but it still made you belly laugh.

I think you and I had a similar exchange during our first exchange on the forums. Ah, nostalgia!

Any hoo, I think folks saying that Jeffrey Ross crossed a line aren't fully understanding the nature of comedy. It's not one "thing", it's a multitude of things to which everyone responds differently. Furthermore comedy has it's 'genres' just like any other robust art form. Spoiler alert: people say offensive things at a roast. That's the whole point of a roast. Furthermore Jeffrey Ross is savvy and sophisticated enough as a comedian to realize that (as would most who are actually vested in comedy as an art form I suspect).

To say that he crossed a line in this application would be like me listening to Cannibal Corpse and saying, "Gosh, "Hammer Smashed Face" really crosses a line in terms of violent lyrical content ... Something like that has no place in music," because, duh, it's brutal death metal ... what did I expect? Sure it doesn't belong on a Kenny G album, but both Cannibal Corpse and Kenny G are savvy enough in their genres to know what crosses a line and what doesn't.

Long story short, shock humor isn't always funny, but in the context of a roast, it's to be expected.

A lot of it is what is and what isn't expected, for both sides of the coin.

Sarah Silverman's schtick is that she's so polite, so adorable that you can't believe what is coming out of her mouth. And if you think she's vulgar on television...she's on an entire different level when performing live. She's disgustingly vulgar, but it works.

And "too soon" applies to who the joke is written for. Ross's joke wasn't supposed to make Ludacris laugh, it was to make him feel awkward and have the audience laugh. Not a nice thing to do but it sure got the exact reaction Ross expected and wanted. And that's obvious because he already had the tag of "Too soon? Too fast? Too furious" ready.

I'll be honest, I laughed my ass off when I read that line Luke (hadn't seen the roast myself). But I'm of the opinion that there are no lines when it comes to comedy.

I have got to stop buying Wii Remote Plus variants...
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Do you really? Really?

What's your fave? Are any of the clones worthwhile bargains?

Sometimes I seem to settle into this cycle of alcohol in the evening/caffeine through the day/alcohol in the evening/caffeine through the day/etc.

Perhaps I should just drink Irish coffee or rum and cokes all day and see what happens.
