My high school had this group of pseudo-goth nu metal kids. Before class they'd always hang out in this one corner by the music room/side entrance and were thus dubbed the "corner critters."
One day I wore a NIN shirt and got tons of shit. Even got quizzed! "What's your favorite NIN song, man?"
Pretty hilarious as NIN has always been one the most "famous" and mainstream bands I enjoyed in my youth, while these dudes considered them (or him, I guess) to be representative of some elite "underground" subculture.
I played sports so that was a big no-no too. Being a teacher's kid didn't help matters either.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
there was like one other guy at my high school who actually recognized the metal shirts I'd wear (I don't really consider Death and definitely not SYL to be all that underground but whatevs)
There were a bunch of "metalheads" but they really didn't know their shit so I never really talked to them (and I got the sense that I wasn't really liked among those people, whatever.)
I seemed to most get along with the anime/video game loving stoners actually.

No shit? I had similar experiences where the "goth before there was goth kids" would quiz me as well. Also this was a time when any band on MTV was a sellout, so the entire "sellout" thing made no sense. I don't care if TOOL is a hand bag of dicks, I still liked their music and videos. But God forbid if you wore an A&F* shirt one day and a TOOL t-shirt the next.BoneSnapDeez wrote: One day I wore a NIN shirt and got tons of shit. Even got quizzed! I remember Circuit City used to carry all the obscure NIN shit. Those were the days.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Back in those days I would have called those kids posers and quizzed them back on what other industrial music they listened to. "What's YOUR favorite Skinny Puppy song? How many Front 242 albums do you own? Have you even heard of Einstuzende Neubauten? Throbbing Gristle? NITZER EBB!?!?"BoneSnapDeez wrote: One day I wore a NIN shirt and got tons of shit. Everytime Luke describes himself in High School, I can't help but think I would absolutely have hated him if I had been at the same school at the same time.
