For instance Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II for the Xbox while playable without Live requires a Live user account to launch which is impossible to make now since the service no longer exists. Basically you have to track down somebody who has an Xbox account and copy it onto a memory card or else mod your system to play it now days which is why it's basically worthless now. Was so disappointed when I tried to play it a few years back :P.
But what about games that doesn't require online gameplay like RE2 and Sons of Liberty?

Stuff like that will stay on the system as long as you download it before the servers go down but once you get rid of the system or uninstall it it's gone forever if they drop the servers. The servers going down will probably be quite a few years off though. They've been really pushing digital games and if they were to simply shut down the service all hell would break loose as people would be weary of buying Digital again after loosing a chunk of their digital library. Basically it's a shit storm waiting to happen so I'm sure they will hold off as long as possible  I could see them even possibly holding off even as far as the next generation after this one to drop the service. It's all about damage control they won't touch a popular service such as Xbox Live as long as the 360 has a large/active community.

A good example of this is Microsoft's PC Marketplace(GFWL). They closed the marketplace on August 2013. However all they did was disable purchasing you could still download any games you had purchased in the past. One day when traffic slows down and the costs start piling up they will cut the service off, but who knows when that will be.

Phantasy Star 1 & 2 for the original Xbox can actually be played in single player. It doesn't require online play. However they made the idiotic decision to link character creation with your xbox live profile so you can't do anything without it. You didn't even need a gold account you could use a simple free silver account to play the game but since Xbox Live is gone you can't generate a new profile. That is why I pick up Xbox memory cards whenever I see them out of the hopes of one day bumping into one with a Xbox Live Profile/Digital Content  .

Well, until you realize it's 4 and not 3 then you realize that the possibilities were just an illusion.

Yeah if you want the Sex Dungeon you have to buy it as a DLC add-on pack for $15. It includeds whips, chains and llamas.

Man what else got scrapped for 4 :P . I mean throwing in more facial animations/moods is cool and all, but the other aspects of the game seem to have taken vast bounds backwards.

So they added pools recently, what is still missing are spiral staircases, having more than 3 floors, toddlers, weather, being able to freely move outside of your own house, having people outside of your house get a job, form relationships and interact with the world and pretty much everything from the the Sims 3.

The sims 4 is seriously, the Sims 2. They talk about the emotions, but every person reacts to situations exactly the same. The system works very similar to the Sims 3 like so. In the Sims 3, if you create a character that is evil, their actions will have an evil connotation like, "Practice world domination speech," instead of practice speech. In Sims 4, now if your guy is sad, they can do things with a sad connotation or do things in an angry or excited connotation depending on their mood. The actually gameplay does not change because of it.

There are still loading times to move people to other plots and there is no downtown area like in the Sims 3, so you can't freely explore the world and people outside of your plot only age and do nothing else. How people can say it is better is beyond me.
