Need advice on getting an arcade stick...

I'm not huge into fighters, but I thought it might be fun to get an arcade stick to play MAME shmups on my PC and stuff like Capcom Classics Collection on my PS2. So basically I'm looking for an arcade stick that can be used for both, or one for PS2 I can hook up to my PSX to PC adapter.

So far I've found this, but don't know much about the quality of it...

I'm going more for novelty than seriousness, so I want to stay under $50 if possible. I can't shell out for something like the HRAP.

huh -- that's not a bad find. I wonder how it holds up.
I've been planning on getting a PS3 or 360 Hori stick to use on the PC, but I'm hearing conflicting reports on compatibility with Windows. I need to get some more solid details to be sure.

I have that stick, but i actually only used it once...
Also- i have by no means have any idea what to look for in a stick so i can't really help you that much...

I only really use the hori ex2 for the 360 on ssfII hd remix.

However- i can say that it works. It is an arcade stick.

Also, apparently it is fairly easy to mod if you get serious about using it.

I just played Capcom classics collections on PS2 this morning on my homemade joystick.You should get that joystick,I heard that can you swap out the parts easily with authentic arcade parts.I almost bought that one,but I bought a Hori Fighting Stick 2 instead,I thought I wasn't going to change out any of the parts,but the micro-switches were kind of hard to use so I replaced them with Cherry switches,which is a easy swap and now I can do uppercuts better on SF.I also got a PS2 to DC adapter so I can play all my favorite DC games with my PS2 arcade stick.

I don't think I would go the modding route. I really just want something that'll play fine out of the box.

It didn't feel like it was going to fall apart to me, but wasn't the tightest stick i've ever used.

It is a good first stick to see if you like it or not.

Say I did decide to replace the buttons with colored ones, would that require soldering?

Isn't the cheaper Street Fighter IV stick going to be comparable to a Hori EX2 only much easier to mod? I think it will be over $50 but it may be worth it. The HRAP3 is $90 and fully PC compatable. That's way more than $50 but you're getting on of the best sticks ever and you could very easily put Sanwa buttons in later if you grow to love it (and you will!). I bought an EX2 because I didn't think I cared enough to get a nicer one but once you've used a Sanwa stick, you sort of notice the shortcomings. That said, the EX2 is definitely a great stick for the money and if you really want to you can mod it though you will need to solder, dremel, etc...

I was actually looking at the Hori EX2 a little while back when I was considering a stick for the 360. True I can use it on PC, I just wish there was some way to adapt to my PS2.
