I do not like Underground Gamer rant!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I just wanted to add that it does get much easier to deal with as you've been around longer. Right now downloading a say a 1 gig file would be murder on your ratio, but once you've been around for awhile and have say 10 gigs uploaded and downloaded, it's not that big a hit on your ratio at all.

Just echoing what everyone else was saying...

1- golden torrents are your friend. Golden torrent weekend will boost your ratio fast.
2- newer stuff is good. If you find something that *JUST* got uploaded that seems interesting/fun picking it up first will have you seeding it early and thus- more. The goodrom sets of snes stuff is hard to boost your ratio with because everyone has it and seeds it. IF someone new grabs it, they are pulling from probably half the users on that site.
3-Seriously, it is only 20 bucks. It gets you unlimited downloads. It isn't a money making scheme, it feeds their server fees. Give back a little to the community that is giving to you. I donated once when i got started and picked up some things i had my eye on. Didn't go crazy, but dipped into the red. By seeding more torrents right out the gates though, my ratio picked up pretty fast.
5- Enter the lotto if you can. They give away the accumulated GB in your uploads if you get picked. You never know- you might just get it!
4- The system they have isn't unlike any other private torrent community. It sucks getting started, but once you do it gets easier.

I wish i could give away some of my upload to people. A friend of mine was having trouble getting started too. Right now I'm at Ratio: 1.917 Spirit: 930 UL: 596.84 GB DL: 311.30 GB and i am completely retarded when it comes to this. I have been kicked out of private communities before. If I can do it- you can do it.

1: Partial seeding. Download only a little of a popular torrent so you don't get in the hole.

2: Hop on early. Most torrents have most of their traffic soon after they're posted. Get there early and you can seed to those who get there late.

3: Featured torrents. Downloading these only costs 75% of what you download, but uploading gets you 125%. These are refreshed weekly, so combine this tip with #2.

4: Golden torrent weekends. These happen around 4 times a year. If you can wait, you can hop on that 200GB Dreamcast torrent, and get it all for free. Best part is, anything you upload still counts. (It's like a big stimulus package for the UG economy)

5: Keep as many torrents as you can open. I'm seeding nearly 70 torrents to UG. Only 2 or 3 will be active at any one time, but that's enough to keep my ratio climbing. Never delete anything if you don't have to.

There's a free 33mb every day too, it actually helps a lot if you're just getting started.
Thanks for the constructive tips and tricks guys. I am just glad to have some positive feedback (unlike some comments). I was upset only because I want to make UG work for me and it seemed like it wasnt. I am in no way going to be leecher so I'll use all of those tips and just slow my role and work on getting my ratio up. Yall have made me feel a whole lot better about everything. Thanks again to those who actually try to make things better and not worse!

Isn't everyone used to the blunt stylings of Mozgus yet?
I shouldn't have to be "used to" it. Mozgus' comments are repeatedly uncalled for, I usually just won't make an argument over them. Name-calling aside, I may not have 5000 posts, but I am just as much a member on racketboy and I truly enjoy being on these forums, and to continually encounter his negative attitude towards everything isn't pleasant. There isn't a rule about being cynical on the forums, but maybe I'll be confronting him on each and every of those encounters, if the result is people dropping this "used to" it response to his attitude.
True. But considering you've been around a while, I would hope you be able to avoid namecalling and taking it personally.
Heck, he's called me out on things before. Maybe I'm thicker-skinned because I've had plenty of outside people giving me a hard times on occasion, but IMO when you consider the source (Mozgus), you have to have to calculate that into the equation of how worked up you should get.

Besides, most of the time, there is a great deal of truth to what Moz says -- sure he doesn't sugarcoat things in the least bit and doesn't nearly handle things they way I would personally, but there is usually a rhyme and reason to the things he says.

There's nothing wrong with debating, but please refrain from namecalling and such.

Thanks ;)

So enough about Mozgus and his attitude. Lets now keep the discussion on UG.

I've been on that boat, it's frustrating as hell, but it's like that on any tracker (even public). The best thing to do is don't leech until you can seed those torrents (or at least be able to take the hit when you leech next time).

Oh wow...I really am close to 5000 posts. That's wild.

Anyway, UG is quite tame compared to most private torrent trackers. Their rules are very fair and they offer some generous ways to replenish your ratio. Absolutely no one should have a problem if they use it logically. You aren't supposed to just dive in there and grab gigs worth a of stuff on day 1. I don't leave my computer on 24/7, and I also turn off uTorrent quite often so I can play games online. I'm just tired of these kinds of threads and comments from new users who treat UG like any old public torrent index site. I see them all over the place. If he gets booted, that's what he deserves.

It's probably because most people get those games from the large Golden Torrents.
If you use the tips we give, it should help.

did you pull those off the complete dreamcast torrent, or in single torrents?

The best way to get seeds off the dreamcast games in UG is to grab that huge torrent and then only check off the games you want using the file browser in your torrent client. That way you get the guys who are doing what you are doing, and the people who want the full torrent. This works really well for dreamcast games. That complete torrent is very hot.

The SNES complete torrent is also very popular and as the games are comparitivly tiny, I found it a good way to get a +1 ratio pretty quickly.

But yeah most people do what other people have said and add the complete lists and pick the games they want from there. If you do that you'll find there are loads of people in the swarm and you'll start getting some upload connections. Its pain having to dance to their tune but it is a damn good source of retro games that you wont find on other trackers
