well some people prefer the pyramids to the Sistine Chapel, so I won't judge....oh I just did. It's perfectly bland. When all you do is immitate and don't risk, all you get is something that feels lesser than its inspiration.

Oh, like a glorified Sonic ripoff fan game?

if you had actually played sonic enough you'd be able to see the huge differences. sonic is not about speed and loop de loops, regardless of what the marketing says.

The worst parts of the Sonic games is when you're not going fast in loop-de-loops.

sure it is, or rather, it can be.

the beauty of a good Sonic game is that it can be played for "speed & loop de loops" OR as an explore-a-thon on any given level.

I do agree with your sentiment about Sonic. Those games were definitely not all about speed and loop-de-loops, regardless of what players' memories of them were.

However, I do find it interesting that you're ragging on Shovel Knight for being bland and derivative, yet don't feel that Freedom Planet is bland and derivative, even though they both remix elements from disparate games.

Now, it might very well be that Shovel Knight might not push the right buttons for you, but that also means Freedom Planet might not push the right ones for us. Especially if Sonic wasn't really our jam in the first place. It could very well be that we can appreciate how Shovel Knight remixed those elements and made its own twist on them just as you feel Freedom Planet does for Sonic/Gunstar/Mega Man.

So... I think Shovel Knight is absolutely fantastic, and it's everything I could have possibly wanted. But if you didn't like it, it's coo'.

The worst part of a Sonic game is playing a Sonic game.

Now a game really built for speed? Speed Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos. All it is is running forward.
