Honestly, the whole backtracking thing is exactly why I dislike Metroidvanias. I enjoyed Shantae because of it's look, and I might play through Guacamelee because I love luchadores, but I've never been able to actually complete a Metroid, any of the post-SOTN Castlevanias, etc. I'd get some hours into it and eventually just get tired of the "Ahp! Gotta new ability! Time to go back to every previous place I've ever been to for the umpteenth time!"

But I'm sure I'm just weird.

Adding backtracking because Metroid was fun is like adding trial and error gameplay to be more like R-Type. Ugh.

It's only "backtracking" if your mindset is stuck on games being a sequence of levels as opposed to exploring a place.

If the backtracking actually involved exploration, that'd be one thing.

Most times, though, it doesn't. Most times, the only thing backtracking does is allow you to access that item that was in plain sight from several hours ago that was taunting you the entire time.

You haven't learned anything new about the place. You haven't opened up the game. All you'd done is jump through some hoops so that the publisher could have a higher playtime written on the back of the box to con people into thinking they're getting more exploration.

A way an MMO is treated, to me has always been a strange situation. I have always felt that private servers and reverse engineering a game to be a godsend. I hate this idea that, years from now, all your work and effort in a game to be completely lost. With PSO2, my work never even began for some god forsaken reason. Why does Sega stink at everything? They don't know where to release their games, they don't know what to release and they don't know who is best to work on what project.

I will take this private server gladly if PSO2 never officially hits the states. I hope to see you all there someday soon.

Sega is a real cluster#$&% in terms of the western market. They are just so goddamn random and unpredictable. Hatsune Miku games are being released here consistently with physical releases (which is great) but what about Yakuza or Phantasy Star, etc.

Yakuza 5 finally is getting an English release but no physical version and considering their fanbase/market those are the people who would want a physical release. Sega is completely disjointed from everything but I guess there is always Sonic Boom.

@the7k, That really depends on the game.

I mean, sure, if you're playing Metroid, but you want Mega Man, yeah you're going to be annoyed. But I don't think that's the game's fault.

@FerretGamer Ha.

@BogusMeatFactory In other words, Sega is exactly the same as they've always been, just with less prowess.
