I appreciate Nintendo's intent with their "direct" feed. That said, the only thing I found intriguing is the new Fire Emblem. I think the New 3DS is just a stopgap until Nintendo reveals their next handheld's concept 2016.
A new Metroid for 3DS would have made my day.

Nintendo didn't announce Shenmue 3. It is a complete failure. Uninterested.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is up on the eShop now, it's $10. It looks like the Wii games will be $20 normally.
Re: Nintendo Direct 1/14/2015
That's not a terrible price for an old download given it's Nintendo. Full size console games of this or last generation come up to around that without sales on Steam and others.
The thing is the cost is going to be worse in reality due to the stupidly small size the WiiU has for storage at 32GB base before its own OS and apps go on there, save games, data updates, etc. You'll be dropping at least $100 for a USB portable drive for those games. I know Wii games varied a bit in size from single to double density discs, but I doubt Nintendo didn't end up bloating them larger than they were on a disc. Ever see the size of those virtual console games compared to the originals? On an ISO site I just checked Metroid Prime Trilogy is an 8GB ISO, and that there is already too big to fit on the base white system.

They need to allow Wii games to run on the Wii U Pad or the TV, and how about some GameCube games?

USB3 bus powered 1tb drives routinely sell for sub $60 from major manufacturers. $100 will get you 2tb easily.Tanooki wrote:TYou'll be dropping at least $100 for a USB portable drive for those games.

Apparently downloaded Wii games w/ classic controller support will now work standalone on the WiiU pad.
So, big questions:
will Wii/GCN discs now work this way?
will WiiWare/VC stuff accessible in Wii mode work this way?
Does anyone know? This has long been my biggest disappointment w/ WiiU's Wii integration...
Re: Nintendo Direct 1/14/2015
They already do, though if I recall, you need to pick which when you swap over to the Wii firmware. The Wii firmware doesn't have the capability to toggle that option on the video output, or access the second wifi module used for the controller.Hazerd wrote:They need to allow Wii games to run on the Wii U Pad or the TV
I doubt they will yet, but I suspect that whatever they've done to make it work could be extended to Wii discs if Nintendo wanted it to.dsheinem wrote:Apparently downloaded Wii games w/ classic controller support will now work standalone on the WiiU pad.

I have SMG2 on disc... but with the digital game not requiring to be booted in Wii mode (from the menu) I am wondering if I should buy this in hope that one day with an update I can use the Wii U gamepad or pro controller.

I'm mostly excited about MH4 and the prospects of a new Fire Emblem.
Splatoon looks better every time they show it. It is such a wild looking game; like straight out of the Dreamcast library.
