Re: Random Thoughts Thread
If you've ever yelled at a customer service rep, a cashier, a waiter, or a store employee, I hate you. You personally.

There are good reasons for doing these things, but I get what you mean - usually people aren't yelling at them for those reasons.AmishSamurai wrote:If you've ever yelled at a customer service rep, a cashier, a waiter, or a store employee, I hate you. You personally.

I got called a cunt 3 times on the phone today before I hung up because some old prick ordered super-slow-but-free shipping this close to Christmas and was shocked it wouldn't arrive til the 15th of January, and clearly that was my faultdsheinem wrote:There are good reasons for doing these things, but I get what you mean - usually people aren't yelling at them for those reasons.AmishSamurai wrote:If you've ever yelled at a customer service rep, a cashier, a waiter, or a store employee, I hate you. There was a call center near my university. It hired tons of students and had a reputation of being an incredibly shitty place to work. The turnover rate was insane. I knew one girl who worked two shifts and bailed.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
You will definitely regret it. The best you can hope for is someone to be indifferent and get through the call without yelling at you or being pervy.AppleQueso wrote:I've been contemplating a call center job

Make sure you aren't selling. Be upfront in the interview. Sales is hell.AppleQueso wrote:I've been contemplating a call center job

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Few to none. It's certainly possible that the CSR/cashier/etc is intentionally being a jerk to you, but the likelihood of it is slim. Most often, they take a world of crap for things that they (and in many cases, their manager) has zero control over and zero chance to change. Even in the rare cases that they can change it, I invoke (in all parts of my life, really) the old expression "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar". During my far-too-long in retail stint I can tell you that combative customers didn't get rules bent for them, either by myself as a peon, myself as a manager, my manager, my district manager when I was a manager, no one. But people who were polite and outgoing and reasonable? They got rules bent and me going out of my way to help them as much as I could without risking my job.dsheinem wrote:There are good reasons for doing these things, but I get what you mean - usually people aren't yelling at them for those reasons.AmishSamurai wrote:If you've ever yelled at a customer service rep, a cashier, a waiter, or a store employee, I hate you. I will also stick by my guns to say that anyone, anyone that has to invoke the outdated phrase "The customer is always right" is not only in the wrong as they say it, but knows damn well they're in the wrong.
It's caused many a disagreement between my father and myself throughout the years.

Why don't you think of working in customer service as "Its the job where you get payed to get yelled at" ?
