I don't get the "cool" factor of e-cigs at all. Regular cigarettes have decades of carefully constructed "cool" surrounding them from in advertising, TV, film, etc. E-cigs, in part because they are sometimes marketed as a "safe alternative" to tobacco have absolutely none of that "edge" factor to them...
I think it's from the people who try to use them and the fact that you can (as I understand it) sort-of manipulate the "weight" of the smoke via different liquids in order to blow smoke rings and suchlike.
But on the whole, I agree with you.

True story.
One time in 8th grade the school did random locker searches and I got busted for having an empty Zima bottle in mine.
Truth was I was playing a drunk in one of the school plays and had to bring my own props.
My school kinda sucked.
