It's a private party, so she does open bar for roughly the first hour and a half or so, sometimes a bit longer (that USED to be the standing bar special for years, but that's kiiiinda technically illegal to do in New York so when it got publicized she had to shut it down), and the downstairs bartender is also the owner so she always mixes strong for her regulars (I've had friends who don't go often tell me they've even noticed their drinks getting stronger just by talking with me while we stand at the bar together because she realizes we're friends. End of the night as you leave there's always presents, too -- this year it was a long-sleeved shirt with the bar name and mascot (Theda Bara, an old burlesque/silent film star)

I've dated or attempted to date a half dozen girls from that bar, it never ends well. To the point where my best friend has been given clearance to kick me in the nuts if he sees me trying to pick someone up from there. However, my best friend was not at the holiday party this year

Definitely in my drunken state wandered over to say hi to a friend of mine who was sitting near a girl I had seen there before but never spoken to -- just breathtakingly pretty girl, and ended up talking with said girl I didn't know for a good long while until her ride was leaving so she had to go. I offhandedly said something to a friend of mine about "was talking with blahblah for twenty minutes there" and she laughs and says "That was way more than twenty minutes"

I should know better. She's a lot younger than me, most of our mutual friends (I've seen her face pop up on my facebook feed before which actually let me send her a friend request today) are not exactly the most sane people, and I'm not really sure if she's even single... but boy she was pretty. And, probably owing to my inebriation, surprisingly approachable.
Aww, this sounds really adorable. X3 I'm glad you had a good time talking with her - maybe you'll be able to see her again soon!

Heh thanks. Like I say, I really really doubt I would even try to pursue anything, let alone succeed, but it was an enjoyable night. And I know I've seen her there more often than not the last few times I've been out there, but with my schedule it's difficult to get out there. Grumble grumble working nights killing bar outings.

That reason is because you're observant and have an excellent memory!

Unfortunately due to a variety of circumstances she faded out of my life several months ago. I haven't talked about it much due to it making me sad (and a few other things going on in my life that also make me sad) and I don't like to think about things that make me sad, being a generally upbeat person. However, it's been long enough at this point that I have to accept the inevitable that she is very unlikely to be returning to my life, and so move on.

Add working weekend nights too.

I can finally afford to have a social life. I just can't have a social life with anybody that isn't my coworkers because we all work nights through the weekend. :?

*snickers* Yeah I got similar jokes maaaaany times (also Breakfast Club versions, because my friends and I are old). Took not only my best friend seeing her talk to me on Skype (could be faked) as well as meeting her (because let's be fair, I could have easily paid him off to back up my story), but his sister and her fiancee also meeting her before the last shreds of doubt were removed

Also, I was dangerously close to buying an e-cig today.

I'm not much of a tobacco smoker (occasional cigarillo) but man that thing was cool. My coworker had some low percentage fluid in it so it just basically tasted and looked cool.

Then I realized, of course, that spending $50+ to look cool by using an ecig is really fucking dumb and that it's still really bad for you.

But really though, it was pretty cool. Why anybody would continue using cigarettes after the invention of those things is beyond me.

For me, the desire is still there but the drive has faded. Gaming is way down on my priority list. Spending time with kids, wife, things to do around the house, other interests... Just never enough time. This gen will probably be the one i stop at, barely played my 360. I'll still play my retro stuff from time to time but don't really get into it as much. As far as my friends around my age, the ones that do game its all current gen, and just occasionally. And mostly just fps or sports titles.
Exactly why I asked the question, I am already feeling this transition. Videogames are withering in my priority list, and lets face it, we will never be done with them there will always be more to play.

More and more I appreciate being out and enjoy the real world and experiencing new things, things I never paid attention to when I was younger like family ties or culture

I don't get the "cool" factor of e-cigs at all. Regular cigarettes have decades of carefully constructed "cool" surrounding them from in advertising, TV, film, etc. E-cigs, in part because they are sometimes marketed as a "safe alternative" to tobacco have absolutely none of that "edge" factor to them...
