Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
I have to recant my statement about the new Wu-Tang album being terrible. It does have some songs that I feel are truly terrible like "Preacher's Daughter", "A Better Tomorrow", and "Wu-Tang Reunion". Mainly the chorus, hook, or whatever you want to call it is so bad on these songs. Also the same could be said about "Ruckus in B Minor", but the song is so good that the bad hook can be forgiven. Other than those the album is really solid and, IMO, better than 8 Diagrams. I do miss the gritty RZA productions of old, but this could have been a lot worse. Lastly I will say that I feel the lyrics in some parts could have been better.
Overall the album is pretty good, but I feel at this point the artists are better as individuals than as a group, with the exception of those artists like U-God, Capadonna, and Masta Killa that have never really been great solo artists (these are arguable, I know).
I am excited about the new GhostFace. Did Rae drop FILA yet?

I did. I actually posted about it a while back. I'm excited. BBNG did some instrumental Odd Future songs a few years ago that were really good.Frag Mortuus wrote:Noise you heard about this:

The new Ghostface is awesome. So awesome that I still haven't heard the new Wu album yet (I know! I know!) but I will soon.
Also, if you think Masta Killa is a weak solo artist then you need to listen to No Said Date.

I really like No Said Date and his other two albums. Just like I LOVE Cap's "The Pillage". But, I don't think they are as well accepted as solo artists as any of the other members of the group.noiseredux wrote:Frag Mortuus wrote: Also, if you think Masta Killa is a weak solo artist then you need to listen to No Said Date.
U-God I actually consider a great emcee, but I think he needs to get a really great producer and to find his own style and identity. To me it seems like he tries to come across as a radio emcee and not a gritty underground dude on his solo albums and it doesn't fit him. He needs to be directed better. I think damn near every verse on a Wu-Tang release is awesome, but he can't translate that over to his own work.

I think U-God makes great verses... and meh songs.
But I do like Masta Killa and Cappadonna as solo artists. Actually, I always felt like Cappa was the most slept on dude in the Clan.

Maybe I need to try Capp's solo stuff again. The Pillage is so good and all the follow ups I've listened to aren't that great, IMO. But, I will check some of them out again. What are his best albums?noiseredux wrote:I think U-God makes great verses... and meh songs.

The Pillage and Ying & Yang are both really good. The Struggle has some good stuff. I heard good stuff about Capitalize Project... hmm... I guess I sort of lost track after then. You've reminded me I need to check out his more recent solo stuff.

Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
Ok so I listened to A Better Tomorrow tonight... and I'm so underwhelmed. On first listen, I do not agree that it's better than 8 Diagrams. There's some good ideas for songs here that have just been fucked with way too much into something overly pop. I'm bummed. Like that "Preacher's Daughter" song - that could have worked without the horrible vocals on the chorus. Same with "Miracle." There's some good tracks. I do like "Ruckus In B Minor." And "Felt" has some good wordplay. But I'm not feeling this much. I'll give it a few more spins to see if it clicks more, but to think that this is a fucking Wu-Tang studio album is a drag.
Oh and by the way, if 36 Seasons wasn't enough, and you can't wait for the Bad Bad Not Good collabo, Ghostface has also announced a 2nd Wu-Block album is dropping IN JANUARY. Ugh, I love this guy and his work ethic is amazing.
