Why multiple internet service companies are getting into the original series business?
Does Netflix really get enough extra subscribers to justify producing a show like House of Cards?
Sony is getting into it too with a new show. I think Amazon is doing it too.

I really doubt they will gain extra subscribers because of this, especially there are other means to get these shows

It worked for HBO, and that's what they're trying to become. When they're hits, exclusive series have resulted in solid profits for Netflix (at least), and have have attracted or maintained subscribers.

The business angle of it is also licensing costs. The more money Netflix and the like make, the more studios feel they can demand for streaming rights. Given that, the costs to produce original content may become increasingly reasonable by comparison.
