So what have you guys been watching lately?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Regular Show however is just stupid comedy on the surface, with deep references to late 80s early 90s culture. It reminds me of people I know aswell. Heck my camper is the size smaller of the Scotty that Muscle Man and Fives live in.
It is funny, the first time I watched an episode with my 12 year old brother-in-law, I just sat there going, "That's a reference to Big Trouble in Little China Town, that's a reference to Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, that's a reference to the Last Starfighter, that's a reference..." and he had nooooo idea what I was talking about. Love the show though. It's a lot of fun!
Ack kept telling me I had to watch it and it just didnt click with me. It was enjoyable but forgettable, I was going to stop until Ack said "you have to watch Party Pete first." And I was still dismissive until I saw this scene:

And since they are referencing Beastie Boys, or Rappers Delight, I went back and rewatched the episodes I had already seen to see what I missed. I was hooked. It still is stupid comedy, but has some awesome references. I have not found a single person who doesnt like the format wars episode.

I told you, chief. Regular Show is my favorite show to work on for a reason.

The latest South Park skewers internet commenters like PewDiePie while simultaneously diving through the awfulness of today's female popstars like Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, and Miley Cyrus. I'm glad that South Park seems to be as confused about these trends as I am. I feel old, but not alone and with my rationality in tact.

Peter Pan Live.

Oh boy. A buddy of mine summed it up pretty well with "You don't start a boring play with a ten minute song about wanting to go to sleep".

It was really frustrating for me, becuase their depiction of how kids experience video games is 100% true!

My brother-in-law spends his entire day watching youtube personalities play and comment on video games. When I'm like, I BROUGHT SMASH BROS. LET'S DO THIS! his response is a shrug of the shoulders. Nothing impresses him, nothing excites him and his adamant love of video games has turned into an adamant love of watching people play the games. He desperately wanted Hyrule Warriors for Christmas, because I let him play it and he freaked out at how good it was (and he never saw a commentary), but now he watched 2 guys play the entire game on-line and he is over it.

GAAAAHHH!!!

Not just kids. One of my old college roommates, that's only a year younger than me, does pretty much the same thing. :?

Yeah, I similarly noticed that as soon as Thanksgiving dinner was over this year, my two younger brothers and my niece all picked a piece of furniture and quietly disappeared into their cell phones playing mobile games or doing some form of social networking. It was sad because I don't live in my home town and I only make it out there once or twice a year. I thought we might, you know, talk.

I can see now why my parents didn't like us watching so much TV or playing so many video games when I was a kid. They grew up without those things for a portion of their lives, so even though they watched television and occasionally played a game or two, they remembered a time when the living room was set up to have a bunch of chairs and couches facing each other so that everyone could talk and there was no television, which is how my grandparents had their living room furniture arranged. Instead, we had couches and chairs facing TV sets. Now I see the next generation spending all of their time on mobile devices instead of watching TV together or playing games together, and it feels like sitting alone in a familiar family setting. Siblings as wallpaper.

South Park is right that the living room is dying, but it started with television. Now there's even less interaction than before. I think in a few more years the living room will just be a bunch of desks facing walls with computers or charging stations at each table. And a few years after that as the population increases and technology advances, we'll just have studio apartments with a VR deck. And after that, we'll just push tap a trigger to a neurostim that gives you the perfect concoction of dopamine, oxytocin, seratonin, and endorphins (D.O.S.E.) and we'll waste away in chemically induced happiness as DOSE addicts.

I can't even explain how difficult it is to get anyone I know to play anything anymore, even when they have the time. Even watching a movie is just unfathomable at this point in time.

Sadly, I don't think it's a new phenomenon, it's just in a new package.

I used to know quite a few people who would claim they love games, but they'd never actually play them for whatever reason. They'd go to people's houses to watch them play it, and then be like, I'm over it.

Maybe that kind of attitude is more pronounced than I ever thought.

In a way, I think the communication potential brought by the internet is fantastic, but at the same time it seems like everything is structured to nurture our vices. I think if things keep going to way they are, it'll likely get regulated as such.

The problem there is they didn't actually play it. You can't be "over" something if you didn't actually try it. I've seen people play games before that I thought looked boring and stupid, only later to try myself and have it "click" and be enraptured.

I don't know any younger gamers personally, so I can't comment on them watching Let's Plays and such, but the people on their phones thing drives me nuts. Social networking has become absolutely terrible for the majority of people. I don't get how they can spend so much time investing in telling people about themselves or taking pictures of themselves or viewing these things from others, but can't hold a conversation. Its mind boggling to me.

And I noticed how bad it is with my little cousins and their phones. They've had them about a year and are constantly on them when they can be. It was a huge deal at Thanksgiving due to our family really being against that type of stuff over the holidays, but it slid this year because of their parents divorce.

I have been re-watching My Name is Earl when I can. Love that show.
