Looks fun and about what I expected.
I know people aren't fond of the director but honestly all I want is a fun roller coaster that's less cringey than the prequels. If it's anything like the Star Trek reboot I'll be perfectly satisfied.

Since I hate the Star Trek reboot and didn't at all care for Lost, I was quite nervous about this. So far, I've been pleasantly surprised every step of the way from production news to this teaser - so my hopes are rising...AppleQueso wrote: If it's anything like the Star Trek reboot I'll be perfectly satisfied.

The problem with the Star Trek reboot I think is that it's so ridiculously un-Star Trek and it feels really off.dsheinem wrote:Since I hate the Star Trek reboot and didn't at all care for Lost, I was quite nervous about this. It felt to me more like a more effective version of what the SW prequels were trying to be, and the style felt like it would've been a perfectly fine fit for Star Wars.
I'm not expecting to be blown away and I'm not expecting a new Empire Strikes Back or anything like that, but what can I say, the prequels didn't exactly set a high bar and so far everything about this easily leaps over that.

Watched "A View to a Kill" last night, which I remember hating as a kid for the excruciating horse plot. Christopher Walken was a pretty good villain, though! The whole thing feels like a direct-to-video or made-for-TV Bond movie and I guess I found that kind of charming.

It's among my top three Bonds.Gooseberrysoda wrote:Watched "A View to a Kill" last night, which I remember hating as a kid for the excruciating horse plot. I like cheesy horror, but if Dario Argento had anything to do with it I'd normally not last the first half hour

I am not a Star Trek diehard or real fan, but I enjoyed the reboots over most of the original stuff. I think they are great. I am not much of a Lost fan though.dsheinem wrote:Since I hate the Star Trek reboot and didn't at all care for Lost, I was quite nervous about this. Yeah, plenty of people do...especially those who aren't fans of the originals. I just feel they lost pretty much everything that made Star Trek interesting, gave it a distinct style, etc. I feel like Abrams basically just slapped a bunch of Starfleet insignias all over "Generic Sci-Fi Flick", pumped it full of newish special effects, and called it a day. Any previous ST universe stuff just seems shoehorned in...Jmustang1968 wrote: I am not a Star Trek diehard or real fan, but I enjoyed the reboots over most of the original stuff. It would have been better, I think, if he had just done some new "The Next Next Generation" series of films and cut the reboot idea altogether.

I would've been fine with that angle as well. I also think they are better than a 'generic sci-fi flick'dsheinem wrote:Yeah, plenty of people do...especially those who aren't fans of the originals.
