This is the sort of thing that I find to be the most fascinating. I have been in firm affirmation to keeping the history of game development alive in all stages of development. This is a great example and I salute everyone involved in trying to keep this delightful piece of gaming history alive and kicking!

You were likely playing the assembler release. That was worked on for a very short period of time before it got cancelled. This release is entirely different.

This is awesome news. It's great to see fans putting in such hard work to get this released.

If this actually becomes playable one day I think I'll have a heart attack.

I've played some attempted recreations of Sonic Xtreme, and granted they were fan attempts, I felt that they highlighted a lot of the problems with the Sonic Xtreme concept and suggest reasons why it may have been cancelled. It's very cool that this will be released, but as for it being any sort of enjoyable high quality game, I'd say don't get your hopes up.

Of course with a level editor and a lot of work someone could certainly create a good game, but whether or not that's truly sonic xtreme would be up for debate. Seeing as how the game was never completed by the team that started it, I think that the game we all had in our heads upon seeing the screenshots in magazines was just that, a game in our heads.

The prices of Saturns worldwide might increase with about 50% when this is playable.
