Brony discussion split
Re: Brony discussion split
I've worn fingernail polish since I was about 12 and have encountered all sorts of reactions. The most common reaction, aside from simply ignoring it, is the "disgusted look". Surprisingly, I get this look more often from women than men.

Not that it matters. Along those lines, if you think about crossdressing in entertainment media is usually played for a laugh when it is a guy in drag, but more often a woman 'trying to be one of the guys' whether it be for social acceptance or because of career inequalities.
So Ack and I are wondering if/when there will be an answer to the question posited upon seeing that badge notice. Or maybe it's fake and Bone is just trolling everyone, perhaps unknowingly.

I doubt it's fake, and if it was, that'd be an extraordinarily mean spirited trolling attempt.Hobie-wan wrote: So Ack and I are wondering if/when there will be an answer to the question posited upon seeing that badge notice. Frankly I think it's a really nice idea.

Indeed this plays a huge roll in reinforcing the current issues with gender inequality. I don't really watch Game Theory and find most of the episodes annoying, but I think this one hits the nail on the head.Hobie-wan wrote: Not that it matters. I'll shut up and let the thread get back on-topic now...

I agree that it is weird, but I'm also ok with weird. Pretty much everyone is weird in some way.Jmustang1968 wrote:Nah TSTR, men obsessing over a little girl cartoon is definitely weird. Going to a social meet-up or convention and then wearing a red badge kinda defeats the whole purpose of going.
Saying it is weird and preventing them from doing it are 2 different things. I am also an insensitive prick and think people need thicker skin in general.
I am also sometimes accused of being a prick.

I liked it too. I've never been diagnosed as being on the spectrum, but if I'm not, I'm just a stone's throw away.AppleQueso wrote:I doubt it's fake, and if it was, that'd be an extraordinarily mean spirited trolling attempt.Hobie-wan wrote: So Ack and I are wondering if/when there will be an answer to the question posited upon seeing that badge notice. I go out by myself all the time. I'd be open to talking to people, but I probably don't project that, and I pretty much never try to start a conversation. Something like this could be good for people who don't pick up well on social cues. It could be helpful if developed further.

If you know someone who isn't weird, you don't actually know them.dsheinem wrote:

Listened to this segment last night on my way home from work, I had a stupid grin on my face the whole time.Luke wrote:If you know someone who isn't weird, you don't actually know them.dsheinem wrote:

J/K, it was a pretty funny bit. Sounded like you liked the pain though.

Re: Brony discussion split
Dating someone who is on the spectrum you start to notice others on the spectrum. I personally feel in general that I see more people who show traits of Autism at cons. One of the most common signs of being on the spectrum is signs of obsession. I also see the word weird pointed out a lot here and to be honest that is also a factor on why it would seem more people on the spectrum are drawn to things like MLP cons. Most neurotypical people will see their behaviors are deemed weird by others and will shy a way from it because of such judgment, hence be more prone to stay away from such cons. Someone on the spectrum might not get others displeasure in their action and logically not see how it could be considered weird. So take something like MLP fans when the average person is seen more weird than other passions, those who can't tell as well the "social taboos" would be more apt to still go and enjoy themselves.
Either way I think something like this would be great for a lot of cons if people choose to participate. It could also help those who are not only on the spectrum but also those that are anti-social.
I also must clarify I hate all these perceived gender norms we put on things.
