SESAME STREET!
The show is still funnier an edgier than SNL, and on a five day rotation. Best show ever? Quite possibly.

Stuff like anime, video games, RPGs, and various other nerdy things have wide appeal, diversity, and are marketed to various audiences of a wide age spectrum.jp1 wrote:I'm not a fan of, nor familiar with the MLP or it's fan base. Still mad love for you TSTR, just saying...
Despite what the "bronies" may insist, My Little Pony is, quite literally, a show for little girls. That's the difference. A grown ass man who's into his type of thing is bound to come off as a little strange - at least in that one respect.

I recently played through Barbie & The Three Musketeers on the Nintendo Wii. It is a game for little girls, but I enjoyed it. I probably will not be getting dressed up as Barbie and going to a Barbie & The Three Musketeers convention, however.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Despite what the "bronies" may insist, My Little Pony is, quite literally, a show for little girls. My daughter (and son) enjoy My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic immensely, and from what I have seen it is an enjoyable show. (I have never sat down and watched a full episode.)

I'm not trying to stir a debate about what should or should not be acceptable as a "grown ass man". I was simply pointing out that there are interests of other members of this board that are widely accepted and would not tolerate mockery. Since the "bronies" aren't hurting anyone, I see no need to pinpoint and ostracize them. I'm absolutely certain that this wasn't TSTR's intention, and I didn't mean to seem as though I was trying to chastise him.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Stuff like anime, video games, RPGs, and various other nerdy things have wide appeal, diversity, and are marketed to various audiences of a wide age spectrum.jp1 wrote:I'm not a fan of, nor familiar with the MLP or it's fan base. My views about Star Wars, Anime, Manga, etc...are irrelevant. I respect other's right to enjoy them, I simply used it as an example to say "everyone has their things".
Truthfully, I don't even know if anyone on the boards considers themselves a "brony" or whatever, or if they would take offense to being called a "socially stunted weirdo". There is some sort of appeal to it for some people, otherwise it wouldn't be a thing. I don't know if they deserve to all be thrown in one box and labelled because of it.
I wasn't really lumping any of those interests I mentioned into a "nerd" category, by the way. I don't see much difference in things like LARPING, Pretending to be Luke Skywalker in your spare time, Jerking off to cartoons, etc...it's all a bit out of the ordinary, regardless of what age group it is geared toward. As long as it isn't hurting anyone, who cares?
Please excuse me from this if it becomes some sort of debate. That was not my intention.

Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
I agree with you since I am farily sure that my interest in collecting vintage video games makes me a "socially-stunted weirdo" in many circles. Accordingly, I do not think that we are in any position to criticize other member's (harmless) interests.jp1 wrote:I'm not trying to stir a debate about what should or should not be acceptable as a "grown ass man". That said, I am also curious about the communication signals posted earlier, and I would like to know if My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic has a special appeal to people on the autism spectrum. (There is at least one New York Times article on autistic My Little Pony fans.)

No it doesn't. Video games are universal in attraction.prfsnl_gmr wrote:

Say the words out loud "My Little Pony". Different.
Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
Many have been guilty of that, including myself. However, it isn't due to his interests, rather his posting content with little regard to any sort of actual information. That said, I don't condone that either, as evidenced by my apology to him and me no longer mocking him. It is easy to get carried away making jokes to a point where it borders on bullying and that is not cool.Luke wrote:But yet even moderators here are quick to pick on and mock jvalentine.jp1 wrote: I was simply pointing out that there are interests of other members of this board that are widely accepted and would not tolerate mockery.

Moderators are people the same as you and I. They make errors in judgment and have differences of opinion. Since they participate in the community in a great capacity on this site, rather than just act as "the law", I see no reason they should be held to a higher standard than we set for ourselves. Though many of them do this on their own. Not to mention that in general they show great leniency to all but the most forward of attacks, allowing a freedom of one's opinions and right to express them that is not respected in a lot of other forums. They should enjoy those same rights, don't you think?
Video games are not universal in attraction. I know a great many people who think it is ridiculous for adults to be invested in any way in video games, retro or otherwise. I'm not saying it's right, just how it is. You can take most any interest and find people (in large numbers) that think it is immature and/or stupid. That's kind of the point in respecting other's interests, if you want to be taken seriously.Luke wrote:

Re: Image Link Dump Thread.
I have had quite a few run ins with bronies in the past and I have to say there are quite a few sub groups there. I don't necessarily care for them but they aren't all bad people.
In my experience there are the two types of people who make up bronies. The first group is people who love the overall light themes and over the top happy vibe the show exerts. A lot of the people in that group that I have encountered have issues with depression, alienation, and etc. Plus the idea of belonging to a group really appeals to them. The second group on the other hand are the attention whoring trolls who understand just how annoying the show can be when forced upon people who don't like it.
Group 1 tends to stick to their own groups but occasionally feel the need to spread the love, and at times can be pretty preachy about the morals and themes of the show. Usually they are pretty decent people though and while self identifying as bronies don't shove it in your face constantly.
Group 2 on the other hand are mutated internet trolls who shove MLP in your face every time they are around just to get attention. The best example of this that I have encountered is G-Mod Theater in Garry's Mod on Steam. MLP trolls form groups on a regular basis there and will literally take over a youtube theater room vote skipping all videos except for derpy song mixes and etc. They will camp a room until it is nearly empty then follow the crowd to the next most occupied theater
. In some cases I have seen them take over entire Servers :X.
