43. Disney Infinity 2.0: Spiderman Playset (PC)
First off, I want to talk about Disney Infinity 2.0 as a game in general and then I will dive into the playsets and talk about the pluses and minuses of the two I currently have completed.
Disney Infinity 2.0 is a vast improvement from its predecessor. They have improved combat, racing and added awesome new elements like flying and super jumps into the mix as part of your platforming repertoire. They have also included skill trees that add new abilities and combos for the original Disney infinity cast, as well as for the 2.0 cast.
What really makes the game shine is its toy box and to be quite honest it really has stepped out on its own as something spectacular. Now you can create interiors and exteriors to play in, as well as linking them together to create a series of set pieces that will invariably allow people to make better narrative. There is so much content in game creation here that it is insane. You can set up mini-game challenges in your toy box for driving, flying, target shots and so much more. I can not stress enough how much variability there is, in the toy box and it is such a joy to play and experience.
Avengers Playset
The Avengers Playset is all about the combat. Missions tend to revolve around destroying enemy spawn points, tower defense, escort missions and more. I found the city itself to be huge and sprawling and a blast to soar between skyscrapers as Thor or Ironman. The problem, I had with this playset was that there was little variance in the missions. It seemed to be pretty repetitive and started to wear on you. The final boss fight was really good though and a proper boss, which was fun.
Spider-Man Playset
This was where it was at! The playset here had a huge variety of mission types that included tons of puzzle elements that were uniquely implemented in fun and exciting ways. It had the tower defense missions like with the Avengers, but also had escort missions that were actually exciting, dragging your innocent along with you as you web swinged through the city. There were also some fun on-rail shooting elements that weren't a complete disappointment! Also, some levels were intense visually, as you navigated mind-bending levels on a hallucinogenic trip. The only real downside I had with the playset was that the final boss fight was very anti-climactic.
This biggest draw, though was web swinging. It is implemented phenomenally and is such a gratifying way of moving through the city. It works simply enough and follows the unrealistic approach to it, but there is just something about the momentum of web swinging that is addicting.
I am currently working on the Guardians of the Galaxy playset, which is a lot more platformer oriented so far and have been enjoying it. We will see.
I want to get into multi-player though, as it would be really exciting to sit street level and watch spider-man swing by, or sit on top of a skyscraper, trying to shoot down a dive-bombing Iron Man.

Pikmin 3 WiiU
Call of Duty: Ghosts WiiU
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze WiiU
Tomb Raider (2013) PC
Danganronpa Vita
Far Cry 2 360
The Witcher 2 360

Portal PC
Portal 2 PC
The Wolf Among Us PC
Analogue: A Hate Story PC
XCOM: Enemy Unknown PC
BioShock PC
BioShock: Infinite PC
Persona 4 Golden Vita
Wolfenstein: The New Order PS4
Combat is awesome, it's tough as nails, and has a better story than any Wolfentstein game really needs. The world Machine Games has made is awesome. The music, the guns, it's all fantastic! It's long but not padded. It has tons of collectables and things to do after the fact too. I'll definitely be replaying this one in the near future. At the end, I was just left with my mouth agape. I beat this game in 2 days and the game is about 12 hours long.
Maybe it doesn't really do anything new, but frankly, I think The New Order stands on the level of Half Life 2 and Halo in the grand scheme of amazing, story driven shooters. I'm only mad at myself for not playing it when it came out. Stunning.

You have good taste.noiseredux wrote:Ryan, it's awesome how many games you've played this year that I loved.
I'm tempted to replay the game on UBER difficulty and work towards a platinum trophy (cause why not?) but I AM DEATH INCARNATE! really kicked my ass the whole way through.
Either way. I've got a tonne of purdy screenshots about to go up.

Akumajou Remilia, a Touhou-themed hack of Akumajou Dracula for the Famicom (aka Castlevania for the NES), albeit on Easy mode.

God bless you.Luke wrote: 83) Contra Legacy of War Playstation
First 100:
102. Ys Origin (PC)
Ys Origin kicks ass.
Of the three Ys games that use the same engine (Napishtim and Felghana are the others) this one is the best by a mile. The controls are tight and refined, the bosses are huge and terrifying, and the "dungeons" are built for thorough exploration without ever getting too cryptic or confusing.
But perhaps the best part of Ys Origin is the fact that it's a love letter to Ys fans. The entire game takes place in Darm Tower - the final area of Ys Book I. All the bosses from Ys I make an appearance here, with slightly different attack strategies of course. Even some of the classic tunes are remixed, including the main Darm Tower theme. The original OST itself is, of course, excellent with the opening theme being the high point.
This is one of the best entries in the series. I almost feel inclined to say it's the second-best Ys experience, right after the godly masterpiece that is Book I & II on Turbo CD.
To those of you who didn't finish Felghana the other month - check this one out instead. It's a much better game, and at <10 hours it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Re: Games Beaten 2014
Contra LOW is like an even more frantic Smash TV, without all the fun. I'm assuming from your comment that you've played it before.BoneSnapDeez wrote: God bless you.
I know I'll play it again, but not sure when that will be. LoW isn't really "Contra", it isn't really fun, but it sure is frustrating.
For me both the Playstation and N64 seemed like they were always trying to do too much and usually fell short. Of course they both had their share of gems, but their overall libraries kind of stink in my eyes.

Re: Games Beaten 2014
It was certainly an awkward era for video gaming.
