Well, Genesis with a six-button controller perhaps. The three button definitely isn't made for Street Fighter.
And Super Castlevania IV isn't the only horror-themed game that springs to mind on the SNES. This the season to play the likes of Musya, Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol, Porky's Haunted Holiday, Dracula, Nosferatu, Dracula X, etc. Or you could import Clock Tower, Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi, or Rapurasu no Ma...if you can read Japanese. They're text heavy.
How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
I think the 32X version is the only home version that I haven't played. But from what I've read and seen in videos, it uses the same (wrong) music from the Genesis version. From what I've seen in videos, the colors have been improved from the Genesis version, but there's still something "off" about them. Backgrounds look weird, I think because of the colors. That and it still has my complaint about the Genesis controller for MK games.
edit: Also, the SNES port is the only version ever to rotate the background during the overhead view of the pit fatality.
2nd edit: This video shows a comparison between all the original home console ports.
Coincidentally, the 32X and SNES versions are right next to each other, so they're easy to compare.

Lot of it probably has to do with the fact that I am so used to the Sega ports.Ziggy587 wrote:Disappointed how? (I'm not upset, just curious).
Anyway, I always heard that the graphics are better on the SNES, which they are. I was impressed with the graphics a lot. But other than the Deadpool stage, it's hard for me to notice the changes for a fighting game.
The graphics and audio are awesome on this. But I just have trouble with the gameplay. I feel the max horizontal distance is shortened on the SNES port. And I feel you have to be a bit closer to connect with your hits compared to other MK games on other consoles.
I tried it once at a friend's house a while ago, and I liked it a lot. The music is the same, but graphics and gameplay seemed the best.TSTR wrote:No doubt the best cartridge port of MKII is the 32X version.

I watched a video on Youtube of some footage from the 32X version of Mortal Kombat II and.....I know graphics and music don't make the whole game, but holy shit, that music made me want to mute my computer. It sounds like clown music compared to the SNES version.

Yeah, the Genesis and 32X version have horrible music. And again, I really don't know why the Saturn is so shitty on the audio side. For some reason they used this slooooow paced song on the character select screen. Whenever I see/hear it, I feel like the game is stuttering in slow motion. Then the roster screen has almost NO music playing. That and all the missing speech, the game feels really quiet.

I watched a longplay of the Saturn version. The music IS better, but still.....ehhhhh. The track that is only percussion is out of place, as does the lack of speech throughout (odd considering it's on a CD). Also worth noting is that whenever Shang Tsung does a transformation, the music track restarts again. WTF?
My bias is showing (obviously), but out of all the versions of MK II, the SNES port I think has the best music. It fits the tone of the game and some tracks are downright creepy (the forest theme.....if I heard that one while actually in a forest at night, I would be scared absolute shitless). Hearing other versions of MK II songs on other platforms made me just want to listen to the SNES versions of the songs, and yes that actually includes the arcade too.

Well, I just played through Street Racers. I had a lot of fun with it. Thanks guys, I appreciate the recommendation!
I also picked up Nobunaga's Ambition recently and think I will give it a shot sometime soon. If I like it, I will probably try branching out into a few of the other Koei strategy games I have on the console that I've never put much time into.

Trying to play through Lagoon... I'm gonna go ahead and say there's a good reason this game is widely available at every used video game store in the country for $5.
