Triad was sold as a standalone game at one point aswell:

Original cards are super expensive (for obvious reasons), but they have all been released online so you can print out a copy yourself.
Retrogamer0001 wrote:Anyone here into Warhammer 40k? It's not for the faint of heart as far as playing with a budget goes, but I love the modelling and painting aspect of it, as well as the game having probably the best backstory/history to it in the history of science fiction.
I enjoyed the Games Workshop universes for a while, then they updated fantasy from 5th to 6th and all my 4th edition figures were invalidated on a tournament level. That soured me to most of the company's products, well that and in 6th they removed my Chaos Dwarves... A similar thing happened with Squats in 40k 3rd edition. Now if I want a fill of the Games Workshop worlds I play one of three games:
1. Space Hulk
2. Mordheim
3. Necromunda

Space Hulk is Aliens the boardgame, and is just a whole mess of fun. Mordheim and Necromunda are squad level play of the Warhammer games. It gives you almost the entire feeling of playing the big game, on a quicker scale. That and both are now Living Rule Books.

Though the best backstory in science fiction history is a very bold comment.

It is, but stand by it. I also said "probably" the best backstory, haha, but if you can think of anything more expansive, interesting, or just plain awesome, please let me know. I'm reading the Horus Heresy novels now and I cannot put the damn things down - I've read seven of them over the course of two months, and there are 18 more to go. The army Codexes are also just plain amazing.

I found most of it to be obviously "inspired" by other sources back when I tried to read some of the fluff (outside of the Codexi). Ive been told that has changed and things like Gaunts Ghosts are a solid read, but I just havent gotten back around to it.

For a more expansive back history, Battletech. So much so that this exist:

It started as a PBMB game, but it is in talks to become canon. Heck it has the announcer for Mechwarrior 4 doing videos for it.

I have a good bunch of Space Marines minis and I should sell them and see if I can get anything better for it. When it comes down to it, WH40K is not particularly interesting as a game and I'm not interested in painting.

I would love to play Necromunda but being a campaign-driven game, I don't think I can even try it. Same goes for Blood Bowl, I suppose.

and here I thought this was a Magic the Gathering thread :P

Any Legacy/EDH players that hang around on Modo or Cockatrice?

I find that my MtG lifestyle goes in like 3 year cycles. I get into it for 3 years, then pack it away for 3 years. This has been going on since Ice Age and I think I am about to enter my 4th period of 'MtG slumber' lol. (random draft appearances do not count :) )

I have a few Magic decks and some cards. I dont play though, no one to play with.. well I do have a couple of people to play with but we dont play often. I have the online version, 2013 and 2014. Only thing I dont like about the online versions is the prebuilt decks.

Thread Resurrection!

I want to give magic the gathering a try too.

Seeing that vid of the nerdy guy pulling out an expensive card got me interested.

I got a whole bunch of cards today at the fleamarket for $5.00

I need you guys to link me a site for me to learn how to play this.

I have no clue. Back in the day I was too poor to afford it and i would just watch the other nerdy kids play it.

Lately these days, I've played a few times with friends with their pre made decks. But i still have no clue on what I'm doing.

I keep thinking its Yugioh, Since I have a more familiar grasp of that game.

So please link me something to retrain my brain.

thanks!

Snag the demo for Duels of the Planeswalkers or get the full version if you like it. It's the main training tool these days that isn't just getting friends to help teach you. Beyond that, if you've got a local store that does Friday Night Magic that would be a good venue to go to regularly; the point is for it to be a fun and casual atmosphere for new and experienced players.

Magic just announced a game that gets me interested in jumping back in:

Magic meets Heroscape = interested if not day one buy. If I can use my 10 heroscape sets, I am even more interested

Hey flojocabron,

I'm sure this has been mentioned on this thread somewhere, but:

Have you tried Wagic?

http://wololo.net/download/

You have to find/download the card artwork for cards separately, but it's a fine (and free) way to learn the game.
...just another lost soul...
