Could be. What's frustrating is that it's inconsistent. Today it's been fine all day. Who knows. I've not had any other flickering issues with my tv, even when showing almost identical retro-game-with-scanline type video from other sources.Hobie-wan wrote:It might just be your particular TV and how it is handling the signal.

This is a bummer. I love the phantasy star games & have been looking into the power base mini:BoneSnapDeez wrote:This thing still has issues with SMS SRAM, huh?
Do any SMS games besides Miracle Warriors, Phantasy Star, and Ys have batteries in them?

Wanted to pick this up now for my Genesis... with the R5 & SMS comparability in mind.

You could theoretically play through those games by carefully using save states. What you'd have to avoid is a Game Over that would send you back to your previous battery SRAM save (which wouldn't exist).Jagosaurus wrote:This is a bummer. Actually as long as the only issue is with importing and exporting SRAM, there shouldn't even be that issue. Once you import the SRAM it never interacts with the SRAM on the cart unless you specifically tell it to import or export. The SRAM data lives entirely on the SD card or the Retron's internal memory. I would just turn off automatic importing of SRAM data for the first play session, and then use as normal. As long as you don't mind starting a fresh game and don't need to take your save to real hardware there should be no issue.

Interesting! Never thought to try that. I'll fire up PS in a little while.
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Famous last words right there. It wasn't but a month ago it would randomly make snacks out of GBA save files just by putting the game into the system. I'm not saying the same SRAM/FeRAM issue on that is what you got on the SMS, but never assume anything. I lost myself into 3 FF6 Advance restarts over it.raygank wrote:Actually as long as the only issue is with importing and exporting SRAM, there shouldn't even be that issue. I got this sent to me moments ago by the Retron Tech -->
Here's the prelim v2.0 public stable release. I'd like to have a few people test it before it goes live, but basically its v2.0 BETA 6 with the fast loading disabled, due to stability issues with that feature. (This is the Sega Genesis cheat file thing failing causing fast load to be disabled.)

Changes since v1.6 include:
IPS/UPS patch support added (allows application of translation patches, graphic/level hacks etc)
Added ability to assign "turbo" button mappings
"Game specific settings" added, allowing certain settings to be configured on a per-game basis
Support for SGB borders added
Color scheme selection for GB games added. In addition, the correct CGB colors will be automatically selected for certain games
"Disable FM sound" option for SMS games added
SGB multi-player mode working (and Gameboy player/button mapping has been split from GBA in Settings)
Fixed screen shaking in some GBA games
Added support for SNES SPC7110 cartridges
File manager is now able to operate on folders (select with long button press) and copy/remove folders recursively
Screenshots may now be saved as either PNG or JPEG, with PNG made as the new default
Revamped in-game hotkey configuration
Improvements to rendering synchronization
Misc game compatibility fixes (King of Monsters, Fantasy Zone, Sky Kid, Youkai Club)

I'm on 2.0 Beta 6, and haven't had any stability issues with fast loading other than that it doesn't seem to work for Genesis carts. Sounds like I should just stick with the beta?Tanooki wrote: basically its v2.0 BETA 6 with the fast loading disabled, due to stability issues with that feature. Ray 2.0 and 2.0b6 are the same, fast loading is disable because of the Genesis cheats problem which I think sucks. I'm whenever I have a system again going to probably just put 2.0b6 on it if I can track it down at that rate as fast loading is far better than lame ass cheats.
By the way for the GPL trolls pissed off about the R5, the tech went ahead overnight and shoved the GPL license stuff and the full source code to the R5 and its emulation cores up for download. You can find the link on the bottom of the download page for 2.0 update.
