No the fbi is doing the investigation. It's the first line in the article. The cops didn't care, the responding officer to the complaint said "if you're getting threats for talking about video games why don't you quit?"
You know I totally forgot about this piece of drama:
I wonder if she will get in any trouble for distributing child porn. Someone tweeted porn at her and she retweeted it saying that she couldn't delete it or couldn't report it or something. I honestly don't believe that she wouldn't know how to report a post but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt since she obviously isn't that bright in the first place but retweeting it is just plan stupid and probably triggered someone that follows her.

You are correct that the FBI is conducting the investigation. The matter was forwarded to the FBI from a local law enforcement agency, however; so I think it is fair to say that the local law enforcment agency is "collaborating with the FBI to obtain the expertise needed to identify the person who posted the threats."flex wood wrote:No the fbi is doing the investigation. Ultimately, however, that fact is irrelevant. The FBI, in accordance with its standard procedures, will not, at this point in time, admit or deny that it is even conducting an investigation; so, I would not interpret the absence of a well-publicized arrest as definitive evidence that law enforcement will not be able to identify the person responsible for sending the threatening messages.

Don't think the FBI doesn't have the tools to find these guys- my sister works TABC, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and they've ran investigations breaking through proxies or high level IP tracking to find people tweeting about where to get beer underage, or people using the internet to sell Absinth, moonshine, and such. And that's only a state level agency.

Well to be fair, Texas always had better law enforcement than the rest of the countryForlorn Drifter wrote:Don't think the FBI doesn't have the tools to find these guys- my sister works TABC, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and they've ran investigations breaking through proxies or high level IP tracking to find people tweeting about where to get beer underage, or people using the internet to sell Absinth, moonshine, and such. Sarkeesian just had to cancel a talk at Utah State University due to someone threatening a massive school shooting if she spoke. The person writing the threats claimed "Feminists have ruined my life and I will have my revenge, for my sake and the sake of all the others they've wronged."
Since Utah State University allows concealed guns on campus and would not ban them from this event, even after the threats, Sarkeesian cancelled.

It just makes me sad that this whole issue of feminism in videogames brings so many psychopaths and bigots out of their hovels. It does not look good for gamer culture. I seriously don't understand why feminism makes people feel so threatened.

Re: Kickstarter "Tropes vs Women in Videogames"
I'm going to preface this by saying it does not apply to anybody here, nor a large majority, and neither is it something I'm trying to claim is correct. What I'm about to say is gathered from observation, articles related to feminism in these circles (none of which I have links to currently), and what I view as a possible overall cultural move to a less feminist friendly society. Again, I'm not claiming I'm right and feel free to refute me, I just see all this together and it all seems to be leading somewhere to me.
The first and foremost thing is internet culture itself, which I think is undoubtedly sexist. It depends on what corners of the internet you peruse, but many sites aren't exactly friendly to females in the ways they deal with things. I know these are extreme cases, but sites like Reddit, 4Chan, and the like are some of the most well known. Following this, some who frequent these types of sites, and other non-female friendly sites, happen to also be gamers. They bled into the gaming sites, and the internet in general, and spread their beliefs, almost completely. Not to say the internet is not friendly to females in most cases, but a large portion of it isn't, or at least has those who aren't.
And then there's gamer culture. It was perceived and treated as a boys club for a long time, and then boom, there's girls everywhere. Gamer culture has a tendency to lash out against non-members of the culture, in the same way tabletop RPG culture might. This isn't a jab at everyone in these communities, but an observation of what I've seen. Gaming and similar hobbies became a "safe spot" for males who didn't fit into other categories, like sports guys, or car guys or somesuch. It diversified over the years, and many accepted this fact, but many still hold onto the idea of this is a club for my kind, not your kind. This continues as feminism encroaches on video games, making these types of people not only upset about the outsiders, but feeling personally attacked that their chosen hobby is considered "sexist."
Now, this last part is going to be touchy, and I'm not attempting to offend anyone here. This is a mix of observations of people I've personally known, along with various articles I've read on the subject, so please forgive me if I cause any offense. Now, atheist culture has risen alongside the internet, as information can be more easily shared. Atheism, as a whole, tends to be pretty friendly to everyone. However, some who take on the atheist label don't follow this trend. Many internet users who are also gamers happen to be atheist. I believe at least a portion of this group happen to be less accepting atheists, who aren't fans of feminism. Mixing this influence with everything else further causes problems.
I'd also argue music has influence on the slowly declining views of women, but that makes me sound like a grumpy old man so I won't go into that.
Put all this in a pot and stir it up, and you have some really pissed off people who feel their whole way is being attacked- and for whatever reason, the extremists of this group are really coming out of their holes.
EDIT: I'm also surprised Utah State allows that, we don't even have that at A&M. I think there's only about 3 people allowed to carry on campus, and I believe they're all professors. Otherwise, the weapon can't leave the vehicle in the parking lot.

It is sad and clearly the person making these threats has major mental issues. Why they feel threatened by a feminist? Probably because like every online community, there are people with major issues online who don't understand the repercussions of their actions/words. But as I said previously on this thread, it's not exclusive to gaming. I've read threatening messages even on "moms forums" ("X should be killed cause he/she is corrupting our children").
So in general humanity sucks. My question is, why the fuck are guns allowed on campus?
And on a side note, I can't believe she's been invited to give a speech at a university, her work sucks.
