No issues with SFC carts for the Don.

That's pretty much my experience. I've cleaned them all thoroughly, but I still have to wiggle them about to get it to recognize the game. SNES games all work fine, save one. So far it's the only slot giving me troubles.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Super Famicom games are way more finicky than SNES, yes.
I had to clean the hell out of all my SF carts. I recently played through Ys IV and it had to be wiggled around before every single play session before the R5 would recognize it.

Weird, never had issues with my few sfc carts...

Both Mother 2 patches work great! Keeping the saves separate is freaking awesome, because it makes it easier for me to practice my Japanese.
Saw that the mediafire guy uploaded a Mother 1 to Earthbound Zero patch for the Famicom. Guess I have to buy that too...
Edit:
Has anybody tested Monster World 4? If so, which patch did you use?

It looks like creating these patches may not be that hard. I found this video on YouTube that (while it lacks voiceover and isn't super clear) shows the process.

Looks like you just have to have a header-free before rom and after rom, and use LunarIPS to compare the two and generate an IPS file.
In fact, now that the Retron allows you to specify if the IPS file expects a header free or headered rom, it should be even easier.
I haven't been able to test this yet (My Retron arrives Saturday) but I think it should be theoretically possible to patch pretty much any region or version of a game into any other, for both fan translations and official translations.
EDIT: Ah, here's the thread at Retro5.net where the creator of this video explains his process. It's a little more detailed.

I may give this a go in the coming months. I really enjoy translating these games on my own (even though I'm not very good at my current level).

Boss. Gonna test these out in a bit.
The Retron 5 calls the game "Langrisser, Der" which makes me chuckle.

Awesome, let me know if it works out for you. I've been making a lot of these patches (the main mediafire link that was posted a few times is the one I personally run along with the video/tutorial) but some of them...while I can test on a PC, I don't always have the actual cartridge for testing on the Retron 5. So while everything I pump out should theoretically work (assuming the person is using the right version for their matching cartridge) I don't know with 100% certainty until someone tests.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Boss. Yeah, it should be easier making patches using headered roms but I've found depending on how much of a change there is from the game you're converting from...and what you're converting to, having it headered won't work regardless of the option being there on the Retron 5. Results vary but to stay safe I just complete remove the header from every rom I make or fix a patch for. On the Retron 5 the cartridges are dumped as headerless anyway and it just simplifies things. Headers are just nasty unnecessary things left over from a time when old rom copier/dumpers required them to play.raygank wrote: In fact, now that the Retron allows you to specify if the IPS file expects a header free or headered rom, it should be even easier.

Also I won't elaborate for obvious reasons but yes you're correct, any snes/sfc game can be patched into another technically speaking.
