I prefer my RE with tank controls, fixed camera, low ammo, all the stuff that made it DIFFERENT in the first place. We got a million shoot em' up action games and FPS games. Survival horrors fill a niche for all the people who want to think instead of shoot. I ditched the series after RE4. I liked the creepy atmosphere of the first games.

I liked reading the files, especially keeper's diary and numerous suicide letters left by survivors and researchers. If not for RE I wouldn't have tried Silent Hill or Parasite Eve.

And I prefer what you dislike where RE has gone. I could never play the old game right due to all the forced limitations on movement, camera and the rest as it made it entirely not fun. Even with a modern interface it didn't have to be a third person shooter persay, something nicer could have been done, but after all this is capcom we're talking about here.

Lo and behold, I agree with you. I hate the direction the series has gone.

Well buddy you got a thousand different action games that just shoot out there to choose from all ready. I don't like tactical RPGS, how about that. So they should stop making tactical RPGs because it's not my style? By your logic, obviously so.

Not like Resident Evil in style I don't, you're just upset they took a very outdated clunky control setup and so on and modernized it. It's not the end of the world unless you make it out to be. :)

I don't like tactical RPGs either and could care less if they vanished. :P And no you're presuming too much by my 'logic' clearly with that RE avatar you have as your judgement is quite clouded. I'm just saying the RE franchise was in long need of it being brought into the modern era and I like it that way, that's it.

You're presuming that everyone finds the old control scheme clunky and outdated and that the change was necessary. But you're also seeing evidence of his 'logic,' which runs counter to your own. Both of you prefer different styles: he enjoyed the cryptic design of the early games, you didn't and have stated that such design increased the tension to much so as to make it unplayable. Personally, I think the fact the tension made you unable to play the game is a good sign it worked, but you'll disagree with that opinion.

I will also lament something about the "modern" twinstick design: it has killed innovation in terms of control. We have a set way with which we do things, and that is now being rigidly enforced in first- and third-person game design on consoles. Rarely now do we see throwback designs which hearken back to the survival horror heydays of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The only recent game I can think of that managed to successfully combine both the classic and modern design would be Deadly Premonition.

And for the record, I find the "modern" design too easy and ineffective at instilling horror.

Same here. The current control scheme almost completely destroyed that element of game design.
