Fair enough. I was half joking to be honest but I remember seeing in Edge Magazine a story on War Devils that claimed the game had been running at 60fps in 1080p HD on original Xbox hardware. Unfortunately they never uploaded said story to their website so it was probably bollocks anyway. I was always under the impression the Wii was just an overclocked Cube with a slightly more expensive graphics card and some of that power was dedicated to calculating the Wii Motes movements.

Massive tangent anyway. Back to the Wii U bashing.

Am I really the only one who thinks Gamecube looks loads better than oXbox?

Agreed, but apples and oranges. It's a stylistic difference. By and large, oXbox was trying to do the whole "realism" thing, and failing because until... now-ish? There just wasn't enough power to pull it off other than maybe pre-renders, etc. Gamecube, overall, was doing a more cartoony style and sticking with gameplay over graphics, as the big N has been wont to do lately.

I too prefer the cartoonish style.

And yes, I'm aware neither of those are absolutes, that's why I said "By and large"

Granted, the last gen looked pretty nice at the end...but I'd expect the same to happen for the PS4 and Xbox One as well.
If you're trying to compare ability you're really better off comparing end of life games to end of life games, since at that point people have figured out how to wring out all they can from each one. The problem, of course, is you have to wait until the end of the current generation to really make it, at which point the argument is rather academic, as the plebes care about the next thing anyway.

My main issue with the Xbox hardware is, all that speed on the CPU was required for the OS overhead. Most games, do not run very well and aren't particularly clear. Many are very blurry.

Gran Turismo 4 ran in 1080i at a high framerate on the PS2, and that console is significantly weaker than the Wii. "1080P" doesn't really mean much.

It depends on how you classify "stronger" and "weaker". The raw specs on Xbox look similar to the raw specs on Wii, but considering that the architectures are entirely different, and the firmwares are different and the operating systems are different, and everything else is entirely different (They don't even have similar render pipelines). It's difficult to say "oh yeah, this is totally more powerful than that".

I would say, though, that outside of a handful of games that brought the Xbox to its knees (HL2), games look a bit better on the Wii than on the Original Xbox. Namely, they're actually being rendered in 480P.

I know over the last 8 years a lot of people have made comments about the Wii due to resolution, but that is less of a hardware restriction and more of a imposed design choice. If Nintendo didn't block people from messing with the resolution, I'm sure we would have seen 720p and 1080i games on the system. And I think sometimes that gets confused with not being able to, rather than not being allowed to.

Metroid Prime looked really good for a 2002 game running at 60fps. Prime 2 even better though that was two years later I think.

I think the GameCube had some amazing graphics with particular games, there's no doubt about that. But the Xbox was no slouch for sure. It could do awesome realistic graphics like Far Cry Instincts, and it could do fantastic cartoonish stuff like Conker: Live & Reloaded.

The fact is the only reason my statements on the Wii and WiiU are empty is because you have a problem with the reality of the situation and I got over the reality of it awhile ago and made peace with it. I can't take your word for it over family who is a third party nintendo (and the other 2) licensee who is a producer for a video game company. They know their shit far more than a fan does from the outside.
This is a fallacious Argument From Authority. Please be kind to everyone around you, as your aggressive behavior may or may not be real, but it feels this way with the words you use. I do not think you are trolling, or that you are a bad person by any means, but I do feel that your defensive behavior is unwarranted, as at no point have I attacked you or meant any ill will. If you got that from anything I said, I do sincerely apologize as it was not my intention.

I am just going to go with the agree to disagree on this topic, as I can not further reiterate my points without frustration. I am not going to try to sway you over to my way of thinking and that is perfectly fine, but please respect my perspective on this topic.

You are not crazy. While there are some great looking games on Xbox, I feel that it suffers from a lot of fog. Games like Brute Force and Morrowind are great examples of that. I feel like Nintendo and other developers took the Gamecube and was able to get a crisp, clear final product. It was not free from such issues though as games like Star Fox Adventures definitely suffers from some fog and graininess. I think that making a gritty, dirty game takes a lot more resources to do than a bright and colorful one. Look at games like Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast and Jet Set Radio Future on the Xbox, those looked spectacular still to this day because of the clear cut, simple yet stylistic visuals that stand out.
