Watched GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY again. This time in a full theater as the Boys and Girls club brought along three buses of kids. My wife and I were watching the credits when some dude with a badge said, "We'd like you to move". I told him "Not moving. We've been here since the start time*, and we specifically chose these seats".

He replied, "Well I'm with the Boys and Girls club, and we're filling this theater. You should move to the front row". Told the rather rude dude "I don't mind sitting around kids". He sarcastically responded "Well try to enjoy the movie then".

We did.

The kids "Ohhhhh!"ed after every curse word (there's close to a dozen). They shushed each other, laughed loudly, danced in their seats to the music (some also sang along), and applauded at the end.

Kids having fun. I'm fine with it. Actually, I'm more than fine with it. With movies like GOTG I'd rather be surrounded by excited and enthusiastic kids than a bunch of fanboys who want the theater to be dead silent.

One kid did have some b.o issues, but I don't expect every kid to smell like roses, and the popcorn smell masked most of it.

GOTG was just as good the second go around. It really is Star Wars meets Indiana Jones. It helps to know the Marvel mythos, but not necessary at all.

I'll probably watch it again before it leaves the theater as Blue Merle is so fun to watch. Call his character what you want, but he is soooo Blue Merle.

*Correction. We arrived at 2:20, five minutes after "start time". The B&G club arrived near 2:45.

Is it safe to assume that the theater was still showing previews and advertisements at that point?

I don't mind kids but I have sure run into obnoxious ones in the past :P. Worst case scenario I've encountered involved those light up sneakers. Had two kids spend the entire length of The Avengers running around the dark cinema and when they would sit down they would start kicking the back of a seats in front of them.

That just wasn't a lucky movie for me ended up watching it twice. First time got ruined by some guy who fell asleep every five minutes and snored like a freight train. His snores were so loud that they echoed in a padded movie theater  Needless to say he pissed off a lot of people. Staff wouldn't do anything about it so we just had to try and keep him awake which was near impossible don't know if it was medication, booze, or a combination of both but he was dead to the world  .

Yup. Last trailer was being played as the kids stampeded and piled into their seats. That said the kids were ais by the beginning of the film.

Side note: There was a couple in their late forties in front of me that complained the entire movie about the kids. The kids were already shushing each other, and the couple was worse than the kids. They kept turning their heads around but never said anything, as if their gaze would stop the kids from having fun. And on top of that, the lady of this couple had half of a candy store in her purse, plus a gallon ziploc bag of popcorn.

Jerkwads.

I can help. You tell the theater manager "Sorry to bother you but there is a patron who is snoring like crazy in theater number 5. Could you please either refund my ticket or give the guy a Coke so he can wake up?".

Theater managers deal with a lot of unsatisfied customers who want free stuff, but if you are polite and give them options you'll most likely get your way.

That, or throw licked gummy worms at the guys head. They'll stick.

I saw Guardians last night. I really enjoyed it; Marvel is still a juggernaut of modern pop cinema. However, this was the first movie of the recent Marvel movie continuity that - for good and ill - really felt like a comic book, albeit one interspersed with very action movie-esque action scenes. The pacing and worldbuilding all were very akin to what comics are used to, which is establishing/polishing the setting and characters ahead of the plot. The result is something delightfully compatible for an action movie, but if taken to this extent, can make something that feels... well, too BIG to fit into a single movie. Even if the film is technically telling a story with broader-reaching ramifications than any movie in the canon thus far, it still feels like it should be bigger to accommodate its world, or the world itself should be presented as smaller. These characters are interesting and feel personal, but their setting is the polar opposite; it just feels incongruous.

Well somebody did start throwing pop corn at him but it had little to no effect  . He would wake up with a loud snort then would go back to gurgling his tonsils a few minutes later :P.

Yeah the kids stories and annoying guest stuff is why I only go to Alamo Drafthouse anymore. No kids, strict no talking policy, great personal pizzas, and a vast selections of beers on tap make it my go to place.

I could never watch THE ROOM at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Kids kicking a seat is one thing, kids simply having fun is another.

I've been to theaters that serve food, and although it's a great concept and a money maker, I don't want to smell food while watching a movie unless I'm in the friendly confines of my own home. It is great to knock out "Dinner and a Movie" in one sitting, but it's too distracting for my taste.
