what was wrong with it? I don't recall anything especially problematic...SamuraiMegas wrote:man i'm still pissed about ac4's ending ugh
or do you mean the series' cross-game, meta-narrative nonsense? that shit has always been stupid, but also easy to ignore.

On the Dreamcast, I can play Dreamcast games. On the PC, I can play Dreamcast, SNES, Genesis, PS1, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Sega CD, Game Gear, Sega Master System, Sega 32x, NES, Virtual Boy, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Nintendo 64, PC Engine, MAME arcade games...oh, and PC games.
I mean, I completely get what you're saying, but Dreamcast (and oXbox, and PS3, and Wii) are all actually very capable emulation machines. Had you said Playstation instead, you would've been completely correct.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My Wii is nearly as good for emulation as my PC is, since there are emulators on the Wii that I can't get working on my computer. Virtual Boy, Neo Geo Pocket and TG-16 in particular.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Yay! Found my "pokemon red rescue team" and "pokemon firered version" manuals and my "new super mario bros" case w/manual....now if only I could find my golden sun dark dawn case and manual...I swear my dad bought that for me new at walmart a year or two ago...at least now I think I've found a majority of my manuals and ds cases from over the years
My gameroom
My systems: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, original gba, gba sp(001), ds lite, 3ds, vita, psp, PSone(101 model) ps2, ps3(320gb model), ps4, retron 5, and Dreamcast.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
As someone who owns a defective Dreamcast(seriously, it has a sticker on it that says "Defective" stuck on the bottom), I don't much bother with using it for anything other than Dreamcast games. In fact, I hardly even use it for that, as it is by far the bitchiest console I own.KalessinDB wrote:Ack wrote:Even if games don't always emulate well and get a bit choppy, there is one big perk to using the PC.

Why would you choose Dreamcast of all things to make that comparison? Dreamcast, you can play half of the systems you listed thru emulation just as easily as a PC can!

NGPC is poorly represented on the PC, but VB and TG16/PCE are very well represeneted on the emulator front:Violent By Design wrote:My Wii is nearly as good for emulation as my PC is, since there are emulators on the Wii that I can't get working on my computer. VB:
Red Dragon
VBjin-ovr
TG16/PCE:
Magic Engine
Ootake
Turbo Engine
Hugo
Both:
Retroarch
The only NGPC emulator I have ever gotten to work decently is Neopop, but it runs Pocket Tennis poorly. Card Fighter is as close to perfect as you can get though
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
As an older console, the Dreamcast is the first console I have found that has great emulation support of other game systems. You can even run Mame on it for the older Arcade games, without any hardware mod. Certainly not the versatility of a PC, but the console eases playing on the big screen since not all TVs have a VGA input. The PS2 emulates a few systems such as SNES and Genesis very well, but no where near the emulation library of the Dreamcast, Xbox and PC.KalessinDB wrote:Why would you choose Dreamcast of all things to make that comparison? Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'll offer up a couple more -
Today I found out about Revengers of Vengeance (Sega CD), it combined RPG with fighting and shmup elements (!) The opening cinemas and RPG parts are masterfully ripped from the Ys series. It was developed by Micronet, known for such "great" Genesis titles as Heavy Nova.
Also, I posted this in the NES library thread, but did anyone ever order any games direct from the publisher? I read about it in the letters section of a game magazine back in the day, and I ended up doing that with a couple of NES games. The prices were at about the regular MSRP for them too. Data East's game (Side Pocket) took a little time to get here, but Tengen's (Toobin) was sent UPS 2 day air.
